Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
I only used the sauce for some frozen onion rings, but the sauce is spot on. It is really easy to adjust to different tastes too, as I ended up adding less horseradish to mine, and more horseradish and cayenne to my husband's. Tasty and zippy!

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
Tasty! Makes a lot, but leftover chili is no hardship. I added a 1/2 cut up block of velveeta to 2 cups-ish of this chili, got raves on my chili cheese dip. I made a few changes, most notably, I subbed part of tomato sauce with can of Rotel, subbed one pound of beef with ground turkey and added more cumin. It cooked in the crockpot all day on low; great smell to come home to!

Vietnamese Iced Coffee

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
To make true Vietnamese coffee, you need it stronger/ more bitter than this recipe calls for. If you can, try to find coffee with chicory in it, or for a lighter more Thai-like flavor, ground cardamom. The little individual coffee presses are totally worth it!

Soft Sugar Cookies V

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
These cookies are super tasty, and super chewy delicious. I accidentally over baked the second batch, (don't let these cookies brown at all!) but they were good after I left them in a container overnight with a piece of bread. I also didn't add the nutmeg, as I wanted a flavored frosting, but they were tasty plain too.

Potato Leek Soup III

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
I really enjoyed this soup! I think it is traditionally blended, but I liked it better with some bite. My fav part is the simplicity(even though I made a few changes). I added a clove of garlic and used half the butter and a smidge of bacon grease to saute the leeks. Also, since my husband thinks anything without meat in it is not worth eating (we're working on it :) ) I finely chopped and browned some canadian bacon to top his soup (tip: add a v small drizzle of EVOO and the CAbacon crisps right up) Very satisfying and delicious!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
I only made two changes to this great recipe, the first was milk + lemon juice because I didn't have buttermilk, and the second was half wheat flour and half white. I like the hearty/nuttiness wheat provides. It is a denser cornbread than I am used to, but is super tasty. I had no problems with dryness, and I will definitely make this again.

Shrimp Etoufee III

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2007
The changes I made in this recipe were to roast the bell peppers before adding them to the mix, and adding three cloves of garlic to the onions. The resulting dish was delicious, and though I missed the dark roux flavor in traditional etoufee, I will make this dish again.

Chicken With Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2007
I followed the directions of other raters,(ie the addition of mushroom soup, sauteing the mushrooms) and the dish was excellent. The only other change I made was to use Bella mushrooms as well as the standard button mushrooms, and I think that was a good decision. Good dish, fairly easy to make.
