There is a saying that food should remember where it came from, and that is absolutely my philosophy with food. I like to make things from scratch with real, natural ingredients. Of course, I'm a busy mother, so I also try to find shortcuts whenever I can. This is why my slow cooker and no-knead bread have become two of my favorite things.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that requires minimal "active" prep work. That includes just about everything that can be made in the slow cooker. Also brownies. Always brownies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I will always remember the big family holiday gatherings we used to go to when I was a girl (and still occasionally as an adult, when I'm able to make it "back home"). Everyone would bring a dish and there would be so much food that you could spend all day eating and still have leftovers. This is one tradition I would like my daughter to experience.
My cooking triumphs
The Jello-shooter brain! This was the first recipe I ever came up with all on my own, and it was so realistic-looking my nephew was afraid if it (which is fine because it was alcoholic anyway).
My cooking tragedies
I fail all.the.time. But I've learned so much from just diving in and trying things. Every tragedy has helped to make me a better cook.
