Red Cabbage and Apples

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
This was a really easy recipe to put together and very good! I made the recipe exactly as stated, but, only used 2 tbsp of sugar instead of 3. I also used a combination of butter and oil to saute in instead of just vegetable oil. This was great served with roasted pork butt. Thanks for the recipe!

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
This is the first recipe I have used to make homeade bread by hand instead of using the bread machine. It was easy to put together and turned out perfectly. The texture was perfect - not too dense and not too light. The flavor was really good - a nice yeast bread taste and not too sweet from the honey. Definitely give it a try!

Bada Bing Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Yum! They turned out so flavorful and really tender. I used cinnamon apple sauce because that is what I had in the house (couldn't taste the cinnamon) and Frank's Red Hot Original as my hot sauce. I marinated for about 9 hours. I did not boil the marinade to use as a basting sauce because I don't like to use after touching raw meat (even after boiling - don't want to chance it.) Really simple to prepare and great taste. Definitely will make again!

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
This tastes like a true Mexican rice. I personally prefer something with a little more flavor - but, my husband really liked it. If you are looking for a rice that tastes like your local Mexican restaurant as a good side dish to the star of the meal - this fits the bill.

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
Fantastic! I tripled the dry rub because I had a 6 lb port butt and wanted it fully coated. I did leave out the cinnamon based on other reviews. I browned in my dutch oven and roasted covered at 350 for about 4 hours until tender but not completely falling apart. I cooled and refrigerated. The next day I cut into chunks, topped with some of the broth, and roasted at 400 for about 10 minutes to crisp up. Really great - thanks for the recipe!

Clark's Quiche

Reviewed: May 22, 2011
This quiche had wonderful flavor. It was much chunkier and less custard than a typical quiche - but, really good. I made exactly as is, but, without mushrooms because I didn't have any. Next time I will be sure to add them in. Thanks for the tips from other reviewers to use deep dish crusts - you definitely need them. I served with a simple green salad.

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
I made this recipe as is and although the flavor was good - I think I will need to tweak it a little to our taste. It didn't make much sauce at all - barely enough for a drizzle over the chicken. I will try it again, but, double the sauce and probably dilute with a little chicken broth. The marsala was just a little sweet for our taste.

Nicole's Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
This had great flavor and tasted very fresh. I made as is with the addition of 1 tablespoon orange juice and about 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro. The juiced lime equalled about 2 tablespoons. I served with cilantro lime rice and fish tacos. Yum!

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
This salad is so bright and fresh tasting! I made the recipe exactly as stated, but, doubled the marinade, only used one can of black beans, and added a couple of shakes of cayenne to the dressing. So flavorful! I'll definitely be making this again.

Asian Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
Very flavorful and easy dish. I adjusted the ingredients based on the reviews I read and to suit our taste. I mixed the 1/3 cup with half soy and half worcerstershire sauce to cut down on saltiness. I use 1/8 cup sesame oil and 1/8 cup vegetable oil. I added 2 tsps of fresh ginger & used Sriracha chili sauce since I couldn't find the paste. It definitely kicked it up with some heat. I saved the marinade in the refrigerator while the pork cooked and when ready brought it to a rolling boil on the stove for 2-3 minutes to kill any bacteria and drizzled over the pork. I cooked at 350 until done so the pork would be tender.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
This was recipe was pretty good, but, nothing special for us. I would rate it about 3-1/2 stars. I made exactly as the recipe states except I made with penne pasta. Although the flavor was good - it seemed to be lacking something for us. I'll try it again and doctor it up a little bit next time to our taste. Definitely came together quick though and I think would be very family friendly.

Spinach and Feta Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
I'm trying to incorporate less red beef into my husband's diet and this turkey burger has been a big hit! I make exactly as the recipe states and serve on pita bread with sprouts, tomatoes, and Tzatziki Sauce I from this site. You get a nice crust on the outside of the burger, but, it stays juicy and moist on the inside.

Tzatziki Sauce I

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
This is really good and has the perfect combination of flavorings for a tangy tzatziki. I did make a few changes for personal taste. I used Greek plain yogurt instead because it lends a thicker sauce. I also add about 1/2 of an english cucumber peeled, seeded, and finely diced. I served with the Spinach Feta Turkey burgers from this site, but, it is also a great dip with toasted pita chips.

Kicked Up Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
This was a nice twist on regular mac and cheese! The spice in the sauce was really good and the chili powder mixed in the bread crumbs was a nice compliment. I made the recipe as is except I used a one lb box of elbow macaroni and increased the pepper jack to 1-1/2 cups. I'll definitely make again.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
I would give this an easy 4-1/2 stars! This is really easy to put together and has a wonderful flavor. I made exactly as the recipe stated and wouldn't change a thing. I cooked in a cast iron skillet and it took about 25 minutes. Perfectly moist and delicious.

Carne Guisada II

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2011
This was just ok for us. I made exactly as the recipe stated with the addition of some onion. Both my husband and I thought it tasted like it lacked something in the flavor. Not exactly sure what it needs, but, I may experiment with some different seasonings.

Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad

Great flavor! I left out the black olives because my husband doesn't like them - but, it was still very good! Didn't change anything else in the recipe.

Good flavor and easy to make. Not a stand out recipe for me. I will make again - but, it won't be in my regular rotation.

Chicken Milano

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
This is a simple recipe and easy to make - but, wow what flavor! I used the sundried tomatoes that are packed in oil instead of the regular dried ones, but, I press them in a paper towel to get out the excess oil. That way I get all the flavor from the marinated tomatoes - but, not the excess oil. I also pound out the chicken until almost doubled in size for even cooking. I also slice my chicken in thick slices and put back into the sauce instead of cutting in 3 pieces. Simple recipe - but, full of flavor.

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
I didn't expect too much from this recipe - but, needed something quick to make for breakfast after coming home from vacation and didn't have much in the house. Yum, Yum, Yum! What a surprise. They were so good and everyone gobbled them up. I will definitely make again.
