Corned Beef Hash

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2014
This makes a tasty, easy, quick and cheap mid-week supper which Mr P. hoovers up every time. I cut down the potatoes to 3 - 4 (depending on size of the spuds) and there's still enough left for another meal for the next day or for the freezer. Thanks for the recipe.

Crab Chowder

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2014
Just made this tonight...Mr. P wolfed down 2 huge bowls, one straight after the other, and has already asked for it again. Made a couple of very small changes: used a hand blender to keep the base a little chunky as per Mr.P's fussy preference and added a shake of crushed pepper flakes (ditto!). Thank you very much for the recipe - most appreciated!

Crustless Bacon and Cheese Quiche

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
Mr P. has decided to go on the Fatkins diet, so made this today for him to snack on throughout the week. The end result tastes great, but one thing - p'raps all you cooks out there can help me with this? - it rose beautifully in the oven, but when I took it out it collapsed into a sort of sad and wrinkled heap. However, as I said, still tastes yummy - thanks for the recipe.

Sicilian Spaghetti

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2010
Made this for the first time tonight and Mr. P hoovered it up (we both absolutely love anchovies). Used the oil from the anchovy jar - with hindsight I should have added olive oil too, but that's my fault not the recipe - and doubled the amount of garlic due to personal taste. Utterly yummy and so quick and easy. Will definitely make again and next time be sure to add more oil and maybe play around with a squirt of lemon juice as other posters have suggested. Thanks so much for the recipe.

Deep South Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
Very simple & very tasty. Used skinless, boneless chicken breasts and oil instead of shortening - still turned out a treat. Thanks for the recipe.

Red Pepper Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2008
I'm giving this 5 stars because the extremely fussy Mr P absolutely loved it and has already requested it again at the weekend. However, I did make a fair few changes; used olive oil not butter, upped the garlic, added chopped chorizo, added red pepper flakes & added a jar of roasted red peppers (simply didn't have time to roast fresh ones myself). Oh, and I didn't strain the puree - no need that I could see. End result was utterly yummy - whole pot got finished between 2 people (and I only had half a bowl...). Thanks very much for the recipe.

Stuffed Mushrooms with Spinach

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
At last...another way to get Mr P to eat spinach! Made these last night as a side dish and they went down a storm. Followed recpe but with a couple of very small modifications (used olive oil instead of butter and upped the parmesan). The spinach mixture is quick & simple to make and unbelievably tasty - as well as this recipe, will definitely use it either on its own as a side or as the filling for other dishes like omelettes. Many thanks for the recipe.

Ricotta Gnocchi

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2007
A huge hit with Mr P this evening, he definitely rates it as a keeper (he's now sitting groaning about how full he is, greedy gutbucket). Made exactly as per recipe - very easy and stunningly delicious results. Thank you for the recipe.

Basic Crepes

Made them this morning to celebrate Bastille Day, very easy and turned out beautifully. Stuffed them with crumbled Toulouse sausage & cream mixture, covered in cheese sauce and whizzed under the grill for 5 mins. Magnifique!

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2007
Had to work late last night so needed something very quick & easy to fill the gaping hole that is Mr P's tummy. This fit the bill perfectly. Added some cooked leeks to the sauce, served with pan-fried veal escalopes and voila - supper in under 20 minutes. Many thanks for this recipe, it's so very quick to make, so yummy and so versatile it will definitely become a staple Chez Pooter.

Special Beef Rendang Curry

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
Pretty good. Cheated massively by not pre-treating the beef (time reasons), just chucked it in and sauteed it with the garlic, onions etc. Didn't have dried shrimp, so substituted prawn paste which worked well, otherwise used ingredients specified - including red chilli pepper. Served with steamed rice and the whole lot went in minutes. Thanks for the recipe.

Asparagus Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
Made exactly as per recipe and, while the taste was very good, found that there wasn't enough cream cheese filling for a tablespoon per slice. Will definitely make again, but up the quantity of spread. Thanks for the recipe.

Mushroom Turnovers

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
Not bad, not great. Pastry turned out nicely flaky, but was fairly difficult to work with. Filling a little bland and somewhat watery - had to thicken it up quite a bit before baking.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2007
Hmmm...one problem with this recipe. Made large batch for Mr P last night so he could heat up the leftovers this evening as I'll be working late. Trouble is, he liked it so much that he scoffed most of it in one go - so he'll be on very slim rations indeed! Made exactly as per recipe, only substituting spicy Italian sausage for sweet and basil for parsley as that's what I had to hand. Extremely tasty and presents well - would definitely serve to guests (if Himself doesn't neck the lot first). Thanks for a very quick, easy and delicious recipe.

Irish Soda Farls

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2007
Made them(it?) this morning as part of a St Paddy's Day Ulster Fry (Mr P claims Irish descent, although frankly, I think Martian is probably more likely). Incredibly quick and simple and very, very delicious. Added a sprinkle of organic garlic salt, but otherwise made exactly as per recipe. Now I know how easy this is, I can see myself making it (them?) regularly. Many thanks.

Seared Tuna with Wasabi-Butter Sauce

Terrific recipe. Took other posters' advice, cut the butter and upped the wasabi. The end result was plate-lickingly good. Many thanks for the recipe - it's already been requested again!

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2007
Addictively good. Had to use sharp cheddar instead of Muenster as that's what I had to hand and also added chopped fresh red chilli as I had some that needed using up. Came out beautifully, only problem is that it's supposed to be for Mr P's lunch and I can't stop picking at it myself! Thanks for the recipe.

Cioppino

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2007
Added red pepper flakes for extra zing, but otherwise made exactly as per the recipe. Very good, but think I'll leave out the cod the next time - there's more than enough in there without it! Thanks for the recipe.

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2007
Very, very good, served it with veal & prosciutto kebabs and it was much enjoyed by all. Followed recipe exactly apart from a couple of small changes - upped the quantity of cheese by 50% for extra creamy consistency and substituted chopped tarragon for chives (tarragon goes beautifully with mushrooms). Many thanks for the recipe, will definitely be a regular fixture!
