Honey-Mustard Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2007
5+++! This is very good. The ingredients are simple, but come together to make a special dressing. I also used dijon mustard. I did not have onion or fresh parsley. So, I stirred in some finely chopped green onion instead. I also added an extra splash of vinegar, just personal preference. My 3 1/2 year old asked for a taste. He then demanded some vegetables to dip in it immediately! Wow! When he was done he told me that I need to make "this sauce" everyday. Thanks for sharing Jean :)

Ground Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
This recipe is definitely a 4 star recipe. It's easy, quick, tasty and versatile. It's not something I would serve to guests, but it works as a weekday comfort meal. I too added worchestershire sauce, it works well. I replaced the mayo and sour cream with plain yogurt, light cream cheese and cottage cheese. It seems just about anything along this vein would work. I added chopped fresh broccoli to the pasta in the last few minutes of cooking to add a vegie. I also topped it off with finely sliced green onion. Yummy :)

Raspberry Truffle Fudge

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
Very tasty! My husband could not stop eating it. I mixed everything together like others had suggested. The texture was great. I also used Razzamatazz. It was almost half the price of the other stuff.

Broccoli Quiche with Mashed Potato Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
This was very good. I made it for a potluck and everybody really liked it. It was best right away. I made an extra one to have the next day. It was not as great because the crust got soft and seemed more like part of the quiche than a crust. Oh well.

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
This is a very good salad. I did double the dressing and add a few items to it. I added a clove of garlic and a serrano pepper, both finely minced. Yummy!

Kielbasa with Peppers and Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2007
Very tasty! I used some chicken sausages I had on hand. I added a sprinkle of garlic powder. I also used a bit of chicken stock while the potatoes and sausages were cooking. Just a few tablespoons, then let it evaporate. It kept the whole dish moist and adds a little flavor. My husband kept saying "this is good, it would be good with a fried egg on top of it". I guess that is how we will try it next time :)

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2007
This was great. This recipe has all of the important flavor enhancers. I did not follow it exactly. However, it came out great. I think if you use most of the ingredients from the beef bouillon through the sugar, you can get creative with the vegies, beans and meats. This was very quick to assemble and pop in the slow cooker. I came home from a long meeting to a great smelling house and a big bowl of full flavored chili. Thanks!

Tangy Pineapple Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2007
This was good. I added a splash of soy sauce after I thickened it. I just thought it needed it. I also added some diced bell pepper, carrot and brocoli during the last few minutes of cooking. This made it a complete meal in one when served over brown rice. Next time I might cut the chicken into bite size pieces before cooking. Just a thought.

Chinese-Style Cheeseburgers

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2007
Yummy! I replaced the soy sauce with Teriyaki Sauce (the recipe from this site by Kevin, thickened with cornstarch). After I turned the burgers over I spooned a teaspoon of the teriyaki sauce on top. These burgers were very juicy and very good. I don't think I will ever make a regular cheeseburger again!

Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
Perfect! I used panko bread crumbs and asiago cheese, because that is what I had. Normally I would have been trying to add garlic and other spices. However, being 3 months pregnant, this seasoning was just right! Very simple and simply delicious. And the smell of the browning cheese made my mouth water.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2006
very simple, very tasty. this was hardy enough to satisfy my husband (with some bread and a salad) and mild enough to make my three year old happy. In fact, they both had three servings! My only addition was a dash of freshly grated nutmeg. It just adds a nice touch to almost any creamy savory dish.

Rugelach III

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
Yummy! I love rugelach and anything with apricots. So, these are the best rugelach ever! The dough was a snap to make. You're done before you know it. The assembly requires a bit of patience, but I find the process relaxing ( as long as the kids are busy doing something else!). I also had to sub dried mango for the dried apricots, as I realized I was out of apricots half way through ;) No problem, mango went great with the apricot jam. You should definitely give these a try.

Panettone I

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2006
This was fun to make. I don't have a lot of experience with baking yeast breads. I was trying to replicate this fabulous tropical fruit panettone I bought last year, as it was very expensive. I replaced the currants and raisins with diced dried mango. Unfortunately, it did not come close to what I bought. It's a nice bread, but it does not have the heavenly tender texture that panettone should have. Oddly enough, I agree that it needs more sugar. I'm usually one who reduces the amount of sugar in a recipe. Also, I added 1 1/2 tablespoons of lemon and orange zest and I could barely taste it. I'm sure that it will make a tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But it was not what I was looking for.

French Salad Dressing

I am 8 weeks pregnant and battling some wicked "morning sickness" all day long. So, I have been craving comfort food from my childhood. This was delicious and easy to make with ingredients that I normally have on hand. I had two servings of salad. Thanks for sharing!

Meatball Orzo Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
Super yummy and very comforting! I love the basic recipe. I used "party" sized meatballs, which were bite sized. I did not have any orzo in the cabinet, but I had some dried cheese tortelini. I also added a bunch of tiny broccoli florets. That made it a one pot meal. It was great. I can imagine orzo would give the soup a nice texture. I loved the tangy lemony broth. I'm thinking that fresh herbs tossed in right before serving would be nice next time. From what I gather, after doing a recipe search of avgolemono, that you can really make this soup your own. This is a great recipe to get started. Thanks!

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
These were very tasty! I ended up using almost equal parts of sweet potato and bean mixture. I tossed a splash of enchilada sauce into the potato mix. I also did not use water to the beans. I used salsa and some fat free half and half. It added the moisture that was needed and made it a bit creamy. I could imagine adding some cream cheese to either part of the filling to add some yum. This is a good basic idea. You can really make it what you like. It's going to be on the menu for next week! Thanks.

Salmon and Shrimp Cakes from Chef Bubba

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2006
I realized I only had half enough cream cheese at the last minute. It didn't matter. They were still awesome! The second time I made them, I added some chopped up water chestnuts I had on hand. They added a nice crunch. This recipe takes a little more prep than I usually have time for, but well worth it!

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2006
Very tastey! The only addition I made was that I sauteed some sliced fresh mushrooms in the butter before I added the italian seasoning mix. The left overs the next day were even better! Yummy.
