Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2013
Interesting flavor, but WAY too lemony for our taste. My kids, all under 10, didn't care for it at all, and they love a wide variety of foods. If I make it again, I'd cut the amount of zest and lemon juice in half, and cross my fingers.

Sally's Spinach Mashed Potatoes

Danger, Will Robinson! These are SO good, I could eat the whole pan. Change nothing with this recipe; it's perfect as is.

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
My family really likes this soup, so I've made it a lot. I prefer a thicker soup, so I use a full pound of ground beef, two cups of shredded cheddar cheese and four 14.5oz cans of Swanson Chicken Broth (which cooks down nicely during the boiling/simmering process). There is definitely enough salt from the broth, butter, and cheddar cheese, so I'd avoid adding more.

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2010
Fantastic flavor for such a simple recipe! It got rave reviews at our annual block party. Be sure to keep an eye on it while baking, as 30 minutes would've been way too long (in our oven, anyway).

Greek Pasta with Tomatoes and White Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2010
There's something about the beans/penne combination that just didn't work for me. The flavors were OK, but this is not something I will likely make again. If you're a feta fan, add more than the recipe calls for!

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2010
I had high hopes for this recipe based on all the favorable reviews and its ease of preparation. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. While it smelled great cooking, the flavor and texture left a lot to be desired. The cream cheese made the meat/soup mixture extremely thick, so I added a 1/2 cup of sour cream to try to thin it out a bit (per other reviewers). My kids didn't like it either. Definitely not a stroganoff as I know it. I will not be making this recipe again. :(

Anaheim Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2009
Having never tried fish tacos before, I was excited to try this recipe. Unfortunately what I ended up with was a soupy, bland mess. I suppose something could have gone wrong on my end, although I didn't alter the recipe. However, with an end product so disappointing, I'm not willing to give it another try.

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
This was very, VERY good. My 4-year-old even liked it! Skipped the jalapenos (used two cans of chiles instead), and added only a dash of cayenne. Pureed one can of beans to make the broth thicker. This will definitely be part of our winter soup rotation. Thanks for the recipe!

Sauteed Swiss Chard with Parmesan Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2008
Loved this recipe! I had never tried Swiss Chard before, but was given a free bunch at a local farmer's market and decided to try it. I'm SO glad I did. Great flavor ... and full of vitamins, iron, potassium, fiber, etc. Thanks for the recipe!

Torta Rustica

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
I liked the blend of flavors in this recipe, but it was EXTREMELY salty. I did not have fresh basil or oregano on hand, so I used dried in half the amount called for. If I make this again, I will probably eliminate the feta, and omit the salt/use unsalted butter in the crust to reduce the sodium. The crust was flawless ... I will definitely try it in place of a traditional pie crust for quiche recipes.

Chicken Pesto Paninis

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2007
Who needs Atlanta Bread with a recipe this good?? I bought a focaccia at Great Harvest Bread with spinach, tomato, red onion and parmesan on top (the top got a little mushy, but the bottom was crisp). Next time I'll buy a plain focaccia. I followed the recipe as written, but since I don't have a panini grill I used a square grill pan and kept the sandwich smushed together with a Pampered Chef stone. Absolutely delicious!

Key West Penne

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2007
Fast prep, but it seemed to be missing something ... maybe garlic? I halved the recipe to use a full pound of shrimp (to omit the scallops) and skipped the olives, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly.

Bob's Bean Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
Great taste, lots of color ... an excellent salad!! In shopping for beans, I was surprised how many are canned with high fructose corn syrup! I couldn't find the correct size cans either (all had more than the recipe called for, but I used all the beans anyway). If you want to avoid corn syrup, here are the brands I found WITHOUT it: Pastene Kidney Beans, Shur Fine Pinto Beans, and Bush's Best Garbanzos. Enjoy!

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
AWESOME brownies! Fudgy taste, glossy tops (like boxed brownies). Followed recipe ingredients exactly, but melted the chocolate chips in a double boiler before adding to the sugar mixture. Superior to any other brownie recipe on this site. Not cakey at all. This is my new go-to brownie recipe! Thanks. :)

Chocolate Trifle

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2007
I've made this twice and got rave reviews both times. To make it extra sinful, I doubled the recipe for Deep Dish Brownies on this site (4 eggs and no baking powder) instead of using a box brownie mix. A decadent treat and pretty, too!

Greek Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2007
This was just OK, and I LOVE artichokes and feta. I followed the recipe exactly and didn't care for the taste ... it may be too heavy on the lemon, basil and parsley(?). In any case, I probably won't give this one another try.
