About this Cook
I'm a professional flutist, living in the Washington, DC area. Besides playing music, I love to cook, decorate my new home, walk/run/hike, read, and work in the garden.
My favorite things to cook
Breakfast!!! Bacon, eggs, and toast has to be one of my favorite meals!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I really enjoy cooking traditional Sunday dinners like roast beef with potatoes, carrots, and onions.
My cooking triumphs
I've cooked Thanksgiving dinner just once, and it came off beautifully, except.... (see tragedies below)
My cooking tragedies
Lesson learned... do not cut up potatoes the night before! They turn gray, and there's nothing you can do about it, besides serving gray mashed potatoes!!! :)

Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli
I really liked this, and my toddler ate it too, though she said it was spicy. (I think I may have put too much pepper on it.) I roasted for the minimum time because it looked and smelled done, but it was still pretty firm. I'll probably leave it in for the full 20 minutes next time. I also reduced the sea salt and increased the garlic, but not my a whole lot.

Pasta with Roasted Butternut Squash and Sage
Great! The only modification I made was to add a can of fire roasted tomatoes with garlic. Not necessary, but a yummy and colorful addition.

Chewy Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Brownies
Good - not terribly sweet. I added chocolate chips, and feel this was essential - brownies wouldn't have been sweet at all without them. Nice, dense texture. I substituted almond extract for the vanilla, and wouldn't recommend this. The almond overpowered the natural peanut butter I used.
