Cheese Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2012
I rarely follow a recipe exactly and we eat a lot of organic and whole foods so I made this recipe with whole wheat pastry flour and butter. I wanted a little more herbs so added 1/2 tsp of an Italian Mix. I used 1% milk and had to add another 1/4 cup on top of the 3/4. Had no sharp cheddar so used a little of parm and a monterey jack and mild cheddar mix. Probably a little over 1/2 cup of cheese total. I made big biscuits so got 10 out of the batch and baked them for 11 ish minutes on a baking stone. They turned out great. This is an awesome base recipe.

Herbed Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
I was looking for a dumpling recipe to go with my homemade turkey soup and this one filled the bill. I made the dumplings exactly as the recipe except I didn't have thyme, so I substituted it for sage. Yum!

Corned Beef and Cabbage I

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2008
This recipe is spot on! I had a flat cut corned beef that was just under 3 lbs. I added 2 tablespoons of mustard seed, approx. 12 peppercorns, 2 bay leaves, and a sprinkling of dried sliced garlic. Then I added two bottles of beer and water to slightly cover the beef and the seasoning packet on top. I set the timer for the time alloted, but found out that my husband wasn't coming home on time. I just turned it down so it was slightly simmering and added potatoes and cabbage accordingly when he came home. I made the horseradish sauce mentioned in an earlier review. It was the best ever! Thanks for sharing, Laria!

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
This recipe is so easy to make! I started out by boiling the ham hock in plain water until the meat was falling off the bone. This enabled me to take the ham, bone, and fat out of the water to seperate. I used the "broth" as part of the liquid called for in the recipe. It did turn out a little plain tasting, but nothing that a little added spices didn't cure!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2005
I made this for the first time yesterday and everyone loved it! I used italian turkey sausage and homemade fat free chicken broth. I made the bread and the sausage mixture the night before and mixed everything together the next day and put it in the oven next to the turkey. Will definitely be keeping this recipe to use from now on!

Charline's Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2005
I've been making this casserole dish since 2000! Since we always go to a relative's house, it's what everyone always looks forward to. Even the ones who don't like sweet potatoes and coconut rave about it! The only reason I gave it four stars is because it is unclear how to mash raw potatoes and the sweetness can be a little much. I usually double the recipe and boil the potatoes until just tender before mashing them. This year we're having Thanksgiving at home, so I'm going to cut back on the sugar and butter.
