Stuffed Green Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2005
This was a good recipe to start with and change/build on. Instead of putting it on top at the end, I mixed the tomato sauce with morning star veggie crumbles and spooned that into the pepper as well so the rice would soak in the sauce. Everyone loved the peppers, even the carnivores.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
This was pretty good. Like others, I added broth. I wasn't too excited about this but everyone else in the house thought it was really good so I had to give it at least 4 stars since I've been asked to make it again soon.

Traditional Style Vegan Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
Amazing... I followed the recipe exact except I didn't have Italian seasoning so I improvised. Used Daiya soy cheese... so good! I put the casserole dishes under the broiler for the last 5 minutes because I am impatient.

Real Chiles Rellenos

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
I loved this! It came out very authentic tasting... and better than the Mexican restaurants in town because they seem to be getting more and more flavorless. I didn't use this recipes sauce because I had one I wanted to use from a farmer's market but I did follow the recipe for the pepper and batter, except forgoing the egg yolk, as suggested by another user and, instead of buying all of those cheeses, I used the authentic mexican style kraft natural.

Icelandic Pepper Cookies

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
I can't believe I haven't rated these yet! I make these around Christmas time every year and they are one of my all time favorite cookies. They are a little messy and hard to work with and I've never been able to use cookie cutters with them but as a spice cookie, they're so unbelievably good. I think I'm going to make another batch today actually... just thinking about them makes my mouth water.

It's really good and easy to experiment with when you can't find the right (or any) soup mix

Banana Muffins II

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2010
These are amazing! Made the recipe exactly as-is. While it's true that they don't rise much, but preheating the oven at 375 and then turning the temp down to 350 when they went in, I was able to make them rise somewhat and without a flat top.

Crab Rangoon III

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2006
this turned out pretty accurate! I took other's advice and used green onions instead of the called for water chestnuts. also used imitation crab and not much of it but this recipe is so simple it would be really hard to screw up... yet to buy already made ones at the grocery store is just way too pricey! much better to make them at home. thank you!

Serbian Ground Beef, Veggie, and Potato Bake

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2012
Great recipe! I made it as given except that I made a sort of parfait, alternating equally sized layers of beef and layers of potato. I thought this was a great proportion, it would have been way too beefy with less potatoes. My picky toddler ate it too (because we told him it was shepherd's pie).

Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
Used 3 tblsp heavy whipping cream instead of milk, all butter (no shortening), 2tsp of vanilla extract, and 2.5C of sugar and thought the frosting was AMAZING- 5 stars easily... but I'm only giving 4 because the amount of every ingredient had to be changed!

Black Bean Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2011
First off, these taste like beans, which I could actually forgive if the texture wasn't awful. Put them in for double the time stated in the recipe and the inside was still like wet, half-cooked batter, even though the outside had actually burned. I feel like I wasted a lot of time making this- and I hate cleaning the blender when I don't have to!

Vegan Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2010
A total hit with the family! Mine were crispy on the edges which is my favorite way for pancakes to be. What a relief that all of the ingredients are readily available in most homes. To the person who said they're not "truly vegan" because they have white sugar... only SOME white sugar is processed with animal bones. Sure, better safe than sorry but if you know your white sugar is cruelty free then GO FOR IT.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
These were almost sickly sweet for me. They really hurt my teeth and gave me a headache. My fiance, on the other hand, thought they were amazing and ate almost all of them, thus I didn't feel like i'd have to. I guess I can thank the gods of caloric intake for that positive outcome.

Roasted Beets 'n' Sweets

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
This is unbelievably good. As another user suggested, I used fresh garlic- sliced thinly. I know many users have suggested using brown sugar for that molasses taste... I just skipped the sugar all together and added a little real maple syrup. I'm really enthralled by this recipe. I also cut the recipe down to about 4 servings. I couldn't believe my 2yo LOVED it too. Just a little warning on those beets without being gross... the next day... when you... you know... just remember that you ate beets the day before or you'll think there's something wrong with you!

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2010
This is an awesome starter recipe. I've made it about 4 times now. I always add things like chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, reeses peices, m&ms, etc. I have no idea how the recipe tastes as is since I always add something. I followed others' advice to down the flour and sugar and up the cocoa powder and am glad I did.

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2007
For years I have been trying to recreate the cabbage soups of my favorite Greater Chicagoland restaurants (Melrose & Omega House).. this is by leaps and bounds the closest I've come. My family is vegetarian so we left out the beef and beef buillion and went with vegetarian buillion. I also dumped (not a culinary word) two cans of diced tomatoes in because they're so good. To start I followed other user's recommendation of 3tbs sugar + 3 tbs vinegar but then added even more vinegar (probably another tbs) and I love the sour taste.

My husband quite likes this one, I'm not as into it. I mixed pumpkin butter in with my cream cheese, definitely made it more interesting.
