Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2006
I give it five stars for being the perfect cake for a chocolate craving. I am not a fan of dark chocolate so I was a bit nervous but don't fret over the dark chocolate...just try it out. I used the Kahlua but I can't taste in in the cake. One warning, like the recipe says the batter is super thick. It got so thicj in my beaters that it started rising and almost got in the motor part so be careful with that. Have a spatula on hand to scrape as you mix.

Make Ahead Manicotti

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2007
I loved this recipe! It takes just a few minutes to prepare and stuff the shells and best of all it doesn't create a huge mess in the kitchen if you do it before bed like I did. Like another person said, I would add more sauce as it cooks because the noodles on the outside got a bit tough. It called for 12 shells and I used the entire package as there were only a few more than 12 and I had plenty of the cheese mixture. For those not so fond of spinach, like my husband, he recommends using half the spinach or better yet none. He thought it would have been good with just the cheese mixture and then adding ground beef to the sauce. So next time I make this, I might split the cheese mixture in half and use spinach only on my half. I could make 2 dishes with half spinach and half plain cheese and try freezing one. This is also a great dish if you need to deliver a meal to someone in snap.

Bacon Wrapped Hamburgers

Reviewed: May 21, 2007
I loved these. A lot of people wrote that the bacon took too long to cook. We did not have that problem. I just bought some cheap bacon from Aldi and it worked great. Plus, my husband laughed at making 6 burgers from a pound of meat. He made 3 burgers instead and really they were perfect size. Great recipe!

Gourmet Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2006
I made this for my husband and I to have a quick dinner before girlfriends came over. I used a can of seasoned diced tomatoes (Basil, Oregano, Garlic) versus fresh because I did not have fresh on hand. I think the seasoned canned tomatoes added a little extra flavor.

Kisses Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
I have also made this in the 6 oz crust vs the 9oz and you don't have to alter any ingredients. It is also fun to use Peanut Butter Cups or the new Peanut Butter Kisses to decorate the top. This is a great no bake recipe for Summer!

Key Lime Pie with Real Butter

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
I love making this...it is so yummy...I think the crust is worth the small effort it takes. The crunchiness of the almonds just goes well with the pie filling to me. Next time I am going to add a couple of drops of green food coloring like someone suggested.

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
Make these for Thanksgiving! I made them last year and my aunt called and asked me to bring the sweet potatoes I brought last year. Her family never likes sweet potatoes and they loved these. That's the best compliment anyone can ask for!

Ground Turkey Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2007
I thought this was going to be a so-so recipe and to my surprise it was great weeknight dish. I will make it again for sure! I included 1 can of diced tomatoes flavored with Italian seasonings. I also added fresh ground pepper to the meat mixture. Next time I would add ground pepper to the sour cream misture.

Make Ahead Lunch Wraps

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2007
These were pretty bland so I added chili powder and cilantro for more flavor. These are perfect for someone with a busy schedule. I will really find out just how much I like these when I get half way through the 20 that I made!

Turkey Tetrazzini II

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
Everyone said this was a bit bland so I did a post-Thanksgiving frig cleanout and added my leftover fontina and guyre cheeses for more flavor. I also added 3 cloves garlic, garlic pepper, and fresh ground pepper. I used 16 oz of pasta shells but while cooking the juices overflowed into the oven so if you use the shells, don't put the entire mix into your 9x13. I didn't do it but I think this would have been good with a little spinach added as well.

Agree with others, skip the shortening and go with all butter.

Pork Chop Pileups

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
We actually cut the recipe in half (except the potatoes) because it is just my husband and I. Reading other reviews about lack of taste I made the following adjustments; Used Campbell's Cream of Chicken with Herbs, onion powder in place of onions (husband dislikes onions) and used FRESH GROUND pepper. I also layered the potatoes on the bottom. Next time I would add a tbsp or two of butter with the potatoes. WE WILL MAKE THIS AGAIN.

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
I made this recipe omitting the onion and bell peppers. In their place I used a half bag of frozen corn and a can of black beans. I also used diced tomatoes that were seasoned for chili. Then I added some tobasco for a little kick. This was a great healthy alternative to red meat chili. My husband was turned off by the turkey when he saw me cooking but once he took a bite he was impressed.

Fennel and Orange Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2006
I found the fennel flavor to be a bit too overwhelming. My grocer had both large and small fennel bulbs. I used the larger and if I were to make this again I would use a smaller bulb or just use part of a larger bulb. However, the oranges do pair well with the fennel and tone that fennel flavor down. I also used baby spinach instead of arugala. I do not recommend this. Arugala has more flavor than baby spinach. However, this does make for a very pretty dish!

Salmon Fillets with Creamy Dill

Reviewed: May 23, 2007
Not a big fan of this recipe. The recipe makes way too much of the sauce. I threw more than half of it out after covering my fillets. To me the mustard taste was a bit strong, I was scraping the sauce off in order to eat it. I think I will stick to lighter salmon recipes that compliment the salmon rather than overpower it.

Chicken Stew with Pepper and Pineapple

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2006
I got this from my AllRecipes.com cookbook so I did not read the reviews before now. I thought it was kind of strange it would take so many hours for the cubed chicken to cook. I was correct, the chicken came out really dry and like another person said it became stringy. I liked the taste but if I were to make this again I would probably adapt it to more of a stir-fry and totally change things. I still wonder if I did something wrong in cooking the chicken since it turned out so dry but I have read over the recipe several times and I made it just like instructed.

Pork Chops with Raspberry Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2006
I give this one star because I will not make it again. I followed the recipe exactly and my family thought the sauce was to sweet for the pork and I also found the sage to strong. My husband and I both agreed that this recipe was not a keeper.
