French Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2008
This is so yummy! I made it last night and followed the directions exactly. The only problem was that I didn't have a baking sheet long enough for my loaves, so I ended up just putting them on the oven rack covered in foil with a sheet of parchment paper on top (instead of greasing/cornmealing a cookie sheet). Very good bread! Definitely a keeper recipe.

Rhubarb Cake I

Reviewed: May 28, 2008
Yum! I used 4 cups of rhubarb and a smaller, deeper pan (which made it take a lot longer to cook). Delicious!

Wild Rice Stuffed Squash

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2008
I thought it was good, but my husband thought it was great! Went well with the roasted lemon garlic chicken we had. Thanks for the recipe!

Venison Stew II

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
I made this last night. Delicious! I did make a few changes. ~ I used my crockpot and put it on low for about 8 hours ~ I used a box of beef stock and a splash of red wine instead of water ~ I didn't have parsnips, but I did add 1 cubed sweet potato, a couple chopped carrots and some celery I thought it was very tasty!

Gramma Brown's Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2008
Wow, this was an amazing corn chowder! I did make a couple changes: I cooked the bacon in the soup pot until it was crispy, then removed the bacon and sauteed the onion and celery in the bacon fat. I crumbled the bacon and added it back at the end to keep it crunchy. I found I didn't need to dirty two pans for cooking the bacon and then simmering the soup. I omitted the butter and definitely didn't miss it! Also I drained the can of whole corn and I peeled the potatoes (it wasn't clear in the recipe if I should). All in all, the best corn chowder I have ever eaten!!

Slow Cooker Oatmeal

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
I made this last night. After reading all the reviews, I added 2 Tbsp butter and made a 1-1/2 batch, hoping to avoid the sticking! No such luck. The oatmeal was okay, but I had to use a lot of elbow grease to clean my crockpot! Also, I didn't add the 1/2&1/2 as it was extremely creamy on its own.

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
These were okay...the gravy it made was very good, but it made a TON. I didn't really care for the flavor of the chops. Just personal preference, though, because my husband LOVED them.

Microwave Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2006
I made this one day at work when it was slow and I was bored...it turned out great! I used a spice cake mix and apple pie filling. Very tasty with vanilla ice cream!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2006
Yum! I don't have a bread machine, so I followed the Kitchen Aid mixer directions someone previously posted. I was worried because my dough didn't seem to rise very much either time, but it still turned out perfectly! I had two as soon as they were out of the oven...

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: May 26, 2006
This is a great and easy dish for a potluck! I especially like that you make your own bbq sauce (super easy). I brought it for a work potluck a few months ago and my coworkers insisted that I bring it again!

Sausage Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
This recipe was great. I made it for Easter breakfast and it was a big hit! I did change the recipe a little...used 12 eggs, 1 lb. of sage sausage, and I chopped up 1 large green bell pepper and 1/2 a large onion and sauted them instead of using the green onions, mushrooms, and canned peppers. I also used 8 oz. of shredded sharp cheddar instead of the 16 oz. of jack cheese after reading the reviews that it was too cheesy. I used a pastry cutter to combine the flour mixture to make sure it wasn't lumpy, and it turned out wonderful! I'll definitely use this again. Thank you!!

Pecan French Toast

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
I made this recipe for a family vacation, but made a few changes. I used cinnamon bread (full loaf), replaced the nutmeg with extra cinnamon, and I omitted the pecans and used almonds instead. I also omitted the orange zest. It was the perfect mix of crispy and soft--I loved it!

Fresh Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2005
It's so simple and wonderful! I would just make sure to coat the rhubarb with a little extra flour so the pie isn't too runny. Yum!
