About this Cook
I live in the South Plains region of Texas. Born and raised Texan. I have four boys that keep us very, very busy, and eat us out of house and home. Love to cook, but with four active kids and a full time job, don't have a lot of time. My other identities include soccer mom (3 teams), swim mom (2 teams), scout mom, and band mom, of course I am usually referred to as "kids name" mom. My grandmother was a great cook. I often wish I could cook like she did. Anyone from the recipe exchange can e-mail me at sgarrett4431@yahoo.com
My favorite things to cook
Love to use my slow cooker and bread machine. Love Mexican food. I also like to make muffins and cookies. Husband loves to cook outside which does not upset me one bit.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up my mother did not cook much so I really don't have any cooking traditions that I grew up with. My husband and I work in the kitchen together every Thanksgiving and Christmas and make the special things that my mother-in-law always asks us to bring. He always makes the sweet potatoes. He never makes them the same way twice but you know they have always been good and there are never any leftovers. For my kids birthdays I always make whatever dessert they want for their special day. My third will always pick a pumpkin pie.
My cooking triumphs
Any meal I make that the whole family likes.
My cooking tragedies
My mother's favorite pie growing up was butterscotch pie, but my grandmother seldom made it for her anymore. So one year I decided to surprise her and make one for Thanksgiving. Found a recipe (not my grandmother's) but did not make one ahead of time to see how it looked or tasted. Big mistake. It was awful, it looked awful and tasted awful. I was so upset.

Party Punch IX
I have made this punch several times and it is always a hit. My son's teenage friends LOVE it. Our favorite is with strawberry/banana jello. We half the sugar as others have suggested. Definitely one to keep in you recipe folder.

Unbelievably Easy Slow Cooker Black Forest Cake
Hubby and kids really enjoyed this. Easy to put together. Hubby described it as a fudgy brownie more than cake. Next time I make it I think I will poke little holes in the cake mix before I add the butter/juice mixture. Mine was still a little powdery in the middle. Once I combined it with other areas of the dessert no one noticed and they ate it up.

Easiest Peanut Butter Fudge
I had no problems with this fudge. I followed the recipe as written. After adding the liquid ingredients to the powdered sugar I beat it with an electric mixer until completely smooth. It did set up fast so it the top was rippled after being poured into my glass dish. The end result was a wonderful smooth and moist fudge. Kids loved it. Will definitely make this again.
