Japanese Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2012
It looked very nice. It wasn't an overly exciting flavor, but the sauce was pretty strong/salty. I should have followed some of the other suggestions to cut down the soy sauce and add some ginger.

Heirloom Tomato Salad with Pearl Couscous

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
Fantastic recipe - enjoyed by everyone! I didn't actually have all the herbs so I just threw in what I had. Loved the taste of the olives through it too.

Bob's Thai Beef Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
I agree on the fish sauce being too much. I used 1/3 cup fish sauce and 1/3 cup lime juice and that was perfect. Very easy and tasty recipe without too many ingredients!

Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2012
Different and delicious - especially while still warm! And my kitchen filled with a delicious aroma that smelled like cinnamon doughnuts. Rather than walnuts I added some white chocolate chips.

Butterscotch Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
What went wrong? I have no idea. I gave two stars because it tasted delicious (although it was a bit too sweet if anything). It came out as a sticky, floppy mess that I couldn't separate into neatly cut bars at all. So I ended up having to serve it more as a pudding in bowls. Thank goodness I lined the tray with grease-proof paper! I followed the recipe correctly, and think I would have had to change it quite a bit to get something that would hold together well. Won't be making it again.

Curry-Coconut Shrimp

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2012
Delicious taste. I should have doubled the mixture though, or served it with some vegetable dishes. In my opinion, it didn't make nearly enough for four.

Chocolate Pudding Cake III

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2012
Skimming through the recipe, I accidentally put all the cocoa into the main mixture. So then I had to add more for the topping. It turned out so deliciously rich and chocolatey! I loved the addition of chocolate chips to the topping. It was a real special triple chocolate treat. I'd probably do it the same way again next time!

Zucchini Bread VI

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2012
Delicious. I used half whole-meal flour and half regular flour. I added chocolate chips too. Smelled so good hot from the oven, but was great the next day as well. Even all the zucchini-hating kids devoured it.

Delicious Blueberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2012
This turned out well. I made it exactly as the recipe described. I think it would have been just as nice without the iced tea powder though. I also agree with another rater that it was silly for someone to rate it so low based on what they thought it would turn out like. I also think it's strange to change the recipe so much that it's a completely different recipe and then only give it three stars.

Panna Cotta With Fresh Strawberry Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2012
This is such an easy panna cotta recipe and it turned out great! The strawberry sauce is delicious too. I used a little less sugar and it was still very good.

Banana Muffins II

Actually only used two bananas as that's all I had on hand, and they turned out amazingly. Still a good banana flavor too.

Spinach, Red Lentil, and Bean Curry

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2012
We really enjoyed this meal. After I started cooking, I realized I didn't have any yogurt, so I just used some sour cream instead. Also after reading some of the other reviews and seeing some people thought it could do with more flavor, I added A bouillon cube to the mix while it was cooking. Overall it tasted really healthy and good.

Grape-Apple Delight

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2012
This is a good healthy jello alternative. Everyone in the family ate it but some of us were unsure whether we liked the addition of celery or not. It was an interesting flavor but I'd probably replace it with some other fruit next time or completely leave it out. One big change - I wouldn't leave the mixture to chill 20 minutes before adding the fruit. I only left it a few minutes at room temperature, and by the time I was adding the grapes (which I added last) I could tell it was already starting to set.

Japanese Sushi Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2012
I wanted to cook rice to use for making onigiri (Japanese rice balls). I wasn't sure about the nori sheet so rather than throw it in whole, I tore it into small pieces, which seemed to work fine and mix into the rice. I also only put half a tsp of sugar. After cooking for 20 minutes, I let it sit, (covered) removed from the heat, for a further ten minutes as I have seen in other recipes. When I was ready to use it, the consistency was great. I ended up adding some furikake (Japanese rice seasoning) to the rice afterwards too.

Zucchini Parmesan Appetizer

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2012
Wasn't sure whether to rate this 3 or 4 stars. It was not bad, it was just a bit lacking in something... perhaps I would have liked it a bit more creamy - like more of a quiche. Or maybe more cheesy... The mixture seemed quite dry as I was mixing it, but turned out a good texture when cooked. It was a healthy option though. I served with a bit of sour cream and cayenne pepper as recommended by some other reviewers.

Jamie's Minestrone

As other people have commented - turned out fantastic. I also added some chopped chayote that I had in the fridge and some blended fresh tomatoes in place of some of the tomato sauce. Great recipe!

Granola-Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
I'm not really sure the best way to rate this as far as stars. What I made turned out AMAZING. Perfectly round cookies - delicious texture and flavor... That said, however, I made a few changes thanks to other reviewers' suggestions. I used 1 cup white all purpose flour and 1 cup wholemeal. I also replaced the peanuts with chocolate chips. I would definitely make this recipe again with those changes.

Roasted Red Pepper Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2012
Delicious.. light.. fluffy.. however, I did change it a bit so not sure if I'd rate it 5 stars without the changes. Biggest change I made, I REDUCED the sugar to one tablespoon, and I'm not sure I'd even bother putting that much in next time. I used self rising flour and omitted the baking powder in the recipe. I used olive oil rather than vegetable oil. I also added a little of the shredded cheese on top before cooking along with a sprinkle of paprika. (also added some additional different types of cheese as recommended by others). Like someone else suggested, I made them in a mini muffin tin. I liked the addition of cornmeal. For a treat, eat fresh while still warm!!
