About this Cook
I'm a happy stay at home mommy, home educator and wife to my high school sweetheart. I blog about once a week, mostly about food.
My favorite things to cook
I'm developing a passion for local, sustainable food. Living where I do, local produce is abundant. We're working on sourcing out local meat as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's 5 day pasta sauce. She started it with a pork hock and let it simmer for 5 days, adding things like kielbossa, pepperoni, hot sausage and meatballs. I have gone as far as 3 days with mine, but being a busy mom, I find that just one full day is often enough.
My cooking triumphs
*I make birthday cakes for our kids ever year, which just tickles me because baking has never been my thing. *I created an eclectic Mediterranean menu for my gourmet group out of entirely seasonal, local ingredients. It was so wonderful, and several ladies commented on how well it worked. Promoting local food is a passion of mine, so I was well chuffed by their reactions to the menu.
My cooking tragedies
Recently I severed an artery and nicked a nerve in my left thumb while attempting to core a whole cabbage instead of cutting it in half. It was a stupid mistake that I'll be paying for for quite some time as I wait for the feeling to return.

Frosted Peppermint Mini Bites
There's no oven temp listed. 350F must be assumed. I just pulled 48 mini cupcakes out of the oven and put in a toaster oven sized brownie pan of leftover batter (easily another 2 dozen cupcakes).

Easy Pizza Sauce I
I used a microplane for the garlic, so one clove was plenty. Like many others, I used far less water and oil than the recipe calls for. I also added a sprinkle of sugar and a splash of vinegar. And I omitted the rosemary, using a few fennel seeds instead.

Pumpkin Pie Spice I
I used roasted Saigon cinnamon from McCormick, which is deep and intense. I agree with others who found that the recipe needs ground clove as well. I'll add that the next time. I only made a small batch, for making lattes with, this time around.
