About this Cook
I'm a happy stay at home mommy, home educator and wife to my high school sweetheart. I blog about once a week, mostly about food. http://myediblejourney.com/
My favorite things to cook
I'm developing a passion for local, sustainable food. Living where I do, local produce is abundant. We're working on sourcing out local meat as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's 5 day pasta sauce. She started it with a pork hock and let it simmer for 5 days, adding things like kielbossa, pepperoni, hot sausage and meatballs. I have gone as far as 3 days with mine, but being a busy mom, I find that just one full day is often enough.
My cooking triumphs
*I make birthday cakes for our kids ever year, which just tickles me because baking has never been my thing. *I created an eclectic Mediterranean menu for my gourmet group out of entirely seasonal, local ingredients. It was so wonderful, and several ladies commented on how well it worked. Promoting local food is a passion of mine, so I was well chuffed by their reactions to the menu.
My cooking tragedies
Recently I severed an artery and nicked a nerve in my left thumb while attempting to core a whole cabbage instead of cutting it in half. It was a stupid mistake that I'll be paying for for quite some time as I wait for the feeling to return.

Sweet Dinner Rolls
Made the dough in my Kitchen Aid, with a bit more water as needed. It's a sturdy dough, but it rose up fluffy and rolled out fine. I'd probably make more, smaller crescents the next time, as they were rather large. But we all loved them. They were sweet and tender, and went perfectly with salted butter. They'll be used for ham sandwiches tomorrow.

A-Number-1 Banana Cake
I baked this in a 10x14 pan. It should have baked more quickly, but after a full 30 minutes the middle was still completely mushy. It didn't bake. I tasted an edge and it was insanely sweet.

Best Brownies
It's not "the best" recipe out there, but it's a good base to start with.
