Love to spend time in my kitchen recreating old recipes and putting together new ones. I am married, husband's name is Bob (he also loves to cook and is an excellent cook). I have two grown children and 5 grandchildren. I love the outdoors and wild berry picking. I have entered many contests and have been at 5 national cook-off's since 2000. Last November I earned my "black belt" in martial arts after 7 years of instructions, twice a week and just before my 65th birthday! I now assist my YMCA martial arts instructor with the beginner students in martial arts. Three of my grandchildren have now joined martial arts, which makes me so happy.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook everything and am not hesitant about trying new recipes. I enjoy experimenting with ethnic recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas is special to me and each year I try to make something old and something new for our holdiay dinner. I love passing my cooking and baking creations on to members of my family and neighbors to taste-test and rank my creations and of course they enjoy that. I also have bake-days with my granddaughter Alyssa who is 9 years old and lives close by. She has also won several contests and has been to NY as a finalist in a Jello contest with her mom.
My cooking triumphs
Pillsbury Bake-Off (twice a finalist) 2000 and 2003. National Beef Cook-Off finalist and runner up $5000.00 prize, 2006 IGA Holiday Contest finalist, 2006 National Cornbread Festival finalist and 2nd place winner and Mrs. Dash contest GP $10,000.00. Several other smaller contests. Also in a Grandparent & Grandchild contest sponsored by Oregan Fruit, my granddaughter and I were runners-up this year.
My cooking tragedies
Only one in all my years of cooking. I made lasagna for my husband before we were married attempting to impress him. It was awful..I could not even eat it it was soooo bad. But he did! I was choking! Don't have an answer to why it was so bad and I am Italian, plus my mother is a wonderful Italian cook.
