About this Cook
Tho I've been playing in the kitchen since I was 7, it wasn't until about 5 or 6 years ago that discovered cooking to be my favorite form of artistic expression. I was a theatre major in school 'back in the day.' I've found that my kitchen with its resulting applause to be the best stage there is!
My favorite things to cook
Anything I haven't cooked before. I love a challenge. I am currently on a quest to try "healthy" foods that don't sound appealing and integrate them into my family's menu.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We all revere the recipes of my grandmother. She passed before I could remember eating any of her food, but the recipes we all have (mom, aunts, cousins, sisters) are all amazing. I also enjoy introducing "Southern Style" to the Illinois tastebuds of my friends!
My cooking triumphs
Anytime my mother in law asks for advice or a recipe!
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made brownies, I scrambled the eggs in the just-melted chocolate and sugar mixture. My sister thought I'd used nuts.

Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel
BEST TIP EVER: Freeze your butter solid, then shred it with a food processor. Makes it so much easier to work it into your recipe! I doubled the flour, added 1/4 tsp salt to the filling, and 1/2 tsp salt to the topping, and I used 6 cups of apples. The apples were just done enough. This may have been the best pie I've ever made. Thanks!!

Moist Chocolate Muffins
These were FABULOUS!! I made changes based on personal preferences, but the recipe is good AS IS!! 1. DEFINITELY add 1 tsp salt. 2. I used 1/4 cup STRONG COFFEE (cooled) instead of the milk, intensifies the chocolate flavor, you WILL NOT taste the coffee, I promise! 3. I used Vanilla Greek yogurt, because that's what I had. 4. Baked only for 16 or 17 minutes, and I also ended up with 18 muffins. Thank you so much, this is an EASY, KEEPER RECIPE!!!!

Chocolate Zucchini Muffins
For those missing the chocolate, add about 2 TBSP of cold brewed COFFEE... Enhances chocolate, doesn't taste like coffee, I promise. (if you're not a coffee drinker, keep a can of instant in your freezer for recipes). I used 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice in place of the four spices, but only to save steps. This is a KEEPER recipe, thanks for sharing!!
