I'm a housewife with three kids. Have been married since 1990. My husband likes to eat whatever I cook & will comment on my cooking whether it's nice or the other way round.
My favorite things to cook
I really like to bake be it cake, pastries, bread and anything that can be bake. Other than that I like to cook asian cuisine, westrern food and also traditional kueh (cake).
My favorite family cooking traditions
During our festive celebration (Hari Raya), I will serve ketupat (rice cake wrap in coconut leaf), beef satay, peanut gravy, sambal goreng (mixed of tofu, tempeh, prawn, beef liver cooked with asian spices)& ayam merah (spicy chicken). My kids alway look forward for the celebration as they cant stop thinking of all the delicious food that I will be serving.
My cooking triumphs
I had always wanted to bake my own bread so when I found bread recipe from this website,I try to bake it. It turn out picture perfect and I am very proud of myself. Since then every other day I would serve rolls and soup for dinner. Recently I'm crazy about making cupcakes with frosting on it. Be it cream or icing sugar frosting,all I have done and did it all the way even for my brother's 4 tier wedding cake to my son's 2 tier birthday cake and get a thumb up from everyboby.
My cooking tragedies
I always make my own Hari Raya cake espcially Steamed Caramel Fruit Cake (we call it Kek Kukus). This cake has to be steamed for 4hrs. I always prepare this cake at midnight so while I steamed it I can go to sleep and wake up just in time to prepare for sahur (morning meal during Ramadhan) and take out the cooked cake from the steamer. The cake look just nice and perfect but when I remove it from the pan, it was charcoal black! Then I realize that the water in the steamer had dried out due to a very big fire on the stove that I forgot to put it into as minimal as I can. I dont know how many hours has the water dried & I am so lucky that noting happen to my apartment or family.
