I have had the pleasure of learning from some wonderful women who had cooked for their families for many years. I adapted this learning to a healthy professional setting, and now write healthy recipes for a cooperative grocery newspaper, and teach healthy cooking classes.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking with wine, using unusual ingredients, and converting old recipes. I guess the main course/entree is my favorite part of the meal to cook, although I do enjoy dessert cooking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My own mother was not a very inventive cook: same thing, same way, same day of the week! I hardly ever cook the same recipe twice! My personal early traditions involved one pan - casserole-style meals as I was always busy as a working mom with a low food budget.
My cooking triumphs
Since the first time I made it when still single and cooking for a man (to impress!) I would have to say my pot roast is to die for. Now I use venison most of the time, and it just gets better. I use a wine, beer, vinegar, juice mixture, and the veggies are cooked with the meat. It's killer!
My cooking tragedies
In the past few years, I have been trying to sub allergy-free and special diet ingredients to make recipes for those who need more resources. What a challenge! There are somethings that just don't convert, and have to be avoided. But I have found alot of things that will work.
