I'm a North Texas Ex ('11)! I've been married since 2003 to the man of my dreams (he admitted to me that a way to a man's heart really *is* through his stomach, so I must be doing something right!!!)!
I am the proud 'mom' of an old and cranky mini schnauzer and 2 parakeets. Very interested in cake/cookie decorating and improving my baking skills, experimenting a little more with the grill, and food styling.
My favorite things to cook
I come from a family of phenomenal cooks, so I love to replicate just about anything my mom made while I was growing up.
Casseroles that are fun, quick, and easy, grilling (especially big juicy steaks), and lasagna (nobody makes it like my mama did)!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking traditions revolve around the following simple and traditional comfort foods that really do hit the spot:
I. Homemade noodles (a midwestern delicacy)! We don't use a written recipe. My grandmother made them, my mom made them, and now I make them. Time-consuming, but worth the effort. Cooked with the juices from a Thanksgiving turkey and served over homemade mashed potatoes, this is the *ultimate* comfort food!
II. Another family favorite is round steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. I made this meal for my boyfriend-now-husband. I'm pretty sure it sealed the deal for marriage!
3. Honorable mentions go to homemade mac & cheese and lasagna!
My cooking triumphs
Presenting a beautiful meal is just as important to me as how it will taste, so whenever I am able to serve an attractive dish, be it appetizer, entree, or dessert, I am very proud.
My cooking tragedies
I've been known to overcook chicken and fish. I can't think of any specific instances off-hand, but when these things happen, I do have a good sense of humor and am able to let it roll off (turkey jerky, anyone?).
