The Old Boy's Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: May 28, 2010
Yummm... I had extra strawberries and wanted to use them up, and this was easy and perfect. I made it without the bottom crust to save calories, but with just the fruit and topping it was incredible - I can't imagine how much better it would be with a bottom crust too! Definitely will make again and again.

Granola Energy Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2010
We really like these... I chose this recipe because it doesn't have any flour in it, which many other granola bar recipes did have. I used agave nectar instead of honey and chopped walnuts and pecans instead of sesame seeds since that's what I had on hand, and it turned out good. These were a little crumbly, but had great flavor. I mixed about 3/4 of the chocolate chips in and spread the rest on top. Yum! I'm making again right now!

Garlic Chicken

It seems like such a simple recipe, but the result is sooooo good. I can't believe how good it turned out. Definitely in my dinner rotation.

Banana Pudding IV

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
I love this recipe, and I especially love this recipe made with chocolate pudding mix and oreos. I break up the oreos into big chunks and mix in in with the rest. Yum.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
Yum! And easy! And even works at higher altitude (5000 ft)! These biscuits were very tall and fluffy. I made them with skim milk and margarine instead of shortening with no problems. I also just toss the dry ingredients in the kitchenaid, and on low, I add the margarine (cut into smaller pieces) and let the kitchenaid do the work. Then I add the milk on low until combined, and presto, 5 minute TASTY biscuits.

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2008
So good! I used white wine vinegar, since that's what I had on hand. I also added about 1/4 tsp cumin and coriander for fajitas, but it probably would have been good without it as well. I used a meat tenderizer (the kind with lots of sharp blades) and marinated for 24 hours. It was tender and soooo gooooood.

Chocolate Chip Cake Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2008
My husband loved these more than any other dessert I've made recently. I loved them also. I happen to really like the taste of boxed cake mixes, so this was the perfect mix between that and chocolate chip cookie bars for us! I left out the nuts, increased the chocolate chips, and didn't bother putting anything on top. Yummy!

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
These were really good! To make them healther, I substituted 3/4 of the sugar with splenda, and 3/4 of the oil with unsweetened apple sauce, and still it was great! It was nice and dense. I used the full cinnamon amount, and I even sprinkled the top with cinnamon sugar. Oh, and I baked them in jumbo muffin tins--12 total, about 22 mins.

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
This was pretty good! Even my non-vegetarian hubby was okay with it. I was going to increase the cilantro, but decided to follow the recipe, and I'm glad I did because it was perfect as it was.

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2008
Sooo good! This is better than takeout, I think, because you can control the quality of the ingredients. I followed the direction almost exactly (I just used ginger powder instead of fresh since it's all I had and I used splenda instead of the extra sugar). I only quickly stir fried the meat to avoid some of the extra fat, and it was still great. Next time I think I'll add a little hot chili sauce for a little extra zing, but it's definitely a keeper!

Cherry Pie IV

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2008
I don't generally care for cooked cherries, but I had a bunch that were going bad so I decided to try a pie. This was my first fruit pie ever, and it turned out soooooo good. It was easy, and the flavor was phenomenal.

Creamy Coconut Cake

I didn't think it was coconut-y enough. Maybe without the sweetened condensed milk...

I think I still prefer a more traditional butter, sugar, eggs, flour only pound cake.

Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2008
Pretty good! I went with other reviewers and first seared my filets and then broiled them until done. I added a heaping tbsp of brown sugar to a double batch of glaze (which I cooked in the same pan that I had cooked the meat in, while I let the meat rest on a plate), but I found it to be too sweet. I'd knock it back to under a tbsp, I think. I think it would be even better grilled with the sauce on the side for dipping.

I made these like peanut blossoms (rolled in sugar and baked on cookie sheet), and they were very good.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
These were very good--I made a loaf of bread out of half of the dough and rolls out of the other half. I had thought the filling would be stickier, so I might try some more butter or something inside... But the dough itself was fabulous--most doughs don't have much flavor, and this dough is fabulous! I intend to make french toast out of the loaf--I can't wait!

German Baby

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
Ohhhhhhhhhh soooooooooooo goooooooooooooood... Tasted kinda like a funnel cake with the powdered sugar on top. I used Pam spray instead of butter to cut back on fat, and I added vanilla and a smidge of salt. Next time I may try a little cinnamon... And by next time, I mean tomorrow! I can't wait!
