Filipino Lumpia

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2012
I almost wish I had never tried this recipe. I almost wish I didn't know how easy and cheap it is to make these in my own kitchen. Now I find myself standing in my kitchen in the morning wondering how lumpia would go with my coffee. Seriously, these things are so easy and awesome. My boyfriend (who eats like a bird) ate 7 of them. And they are full of veggies! So what if it's fried veggies, at least they're there! Like I said, try this recipe only if you want to open the door to breakfast lumpia.

Grandma McAndrews' Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2012
I made it exactly as written, and it came out perfectly! I was worried when I first took the bread out of the oven because it seemed undercooked. I let it sit for an hour or so while I finished the rest of the meal, and by dinner time it was absolutely perfect! I will definitely make this again.

Black Beans and Rice

For how cheap this dish is to make, it's very flavorful. I will make this again when I need burrito filling, I think it would be great with shredded chicken and lettuce!

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2010
This was good. It was a little tricky finding some of the ingredients in England, but even with a knocked together gumbo spice mix, this was a hearty, spicy soup.

Ricotta Cake

Reviewed: May 5, 2010
Save this cake for the next day! Like the other reviews suggested, I made these the night before a party. I made them as cupcakes, and rolled the tops in powdered sugar. They were gorgeous, moist, and seemed like they were filled with cheesecake! I um...might have eaten one for breakfast the next day too...they are delicious!

Yum! I made this for my roomie and me, and we didn't mind at all the giant pot of leftovers!

Rick's Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I love this! I followed the advice of the other commentators and did half butter, half crisco, and only 6 cups of sugar (and about a cup of cocoa powder to make it chocolate). It was for my mother's birthday cake, and she's a real fan of buttercream. She say's that the texture is perfect!

Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
Mine came out nearly inedible. They were hard little balls instead of light buns.

Pizza Dough III

Very good recipe! I added a touch more flour to pull the dough together, but it was a very forgiving recipe! I will definitely use this one again.

Never Fail Pie Crust II

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
To be honest, I didn't have high hopes for this pie crust. The dough seemed too wet, and I figured it would be dense. When I served the quiche that this crust was the base of, everyone commented on how flaky and buttery it was! It really came out excellent. I'm using it again for a strawberry tart!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
Very good! I made cornbread muffins by raising the temperature just a bit and cooking for 20 minutes. These came out light and just a little bit sweet. I doubt there will be any leftovers!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2008
These are good, but rather sweet. I put garlic butter on mine, and I think it would have been better without the sugar added. These remind me more of breadsticks than pretzels.

Easy Baked Fish and Chips for Two

I didn't love this recipe. The potatoes are tasty, but the fish is just kind of blah.

Good flavor, but it was gummy textured. It was better after sitting in the fridge for a day.

Whole Wheat and Honey Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2007
This tasted somewhat like pizza on wheat bread. The texture was very soft, and not what I would think of as pizza at all. The boyfriend loved it, though, so perhaps I'm expecting too much from it.

Runzas (meat pies)

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2007
This is a great recipe! The crust was just a touch sweet, and would go great with any calazone-type filling! I used chunks of buffalo steak instead of ground beef, and the texture as a whole was fantastic!

Mexican Rice II

This rice came out very well! I used Basmati rice, so the flavour was a little different than I'm used too, but it was still delicious.
