About this Cook
I'm a busy flight nurse with limited time, so I like to try meals which are not only healthy and tasty, but easy to prepare.
My favorite things to cook
I try lots of chicken recipes, desserts, and casseroles. I also make time for home canning, making jams, pickles, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, one of us kids (I have four siblings) will host the family Christmas party. The host determines the main course (I like to do prime rib) then everyone else contributes the side dishes. This makes for an easier meal for the hostess. I have often hoped that we'd try lots of new recipes this way, but the same old favorites keep showing up. That's okay, though... there's a good reason that they are favorites!
My cooking triumphs
Never having anyone treated in the Emergency Department after eating one of my meals!
My cooking tragedies
The summer we married, I decided to impress my new husband with a turkey dinner with all the trimmings (like Thanksgiving in August). Bad choice! It was 90 degrees in the non-air-conditioned apartment when I STARTED to cook! My hubby sure was impressed when he got home from work to find turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes etc. I was too hot and cranky to serve dinner, so we ate out that night. Eighteen years later, he teases me every summer about our "traditional" August turkey.

Country Chicken Casserole
I made this exactly as written. It was gummy and bland, and I don't know what I'm going to do with the leftovers. I should have read more reviews before I made this; seems as though everyone else kicked it up a few notches.

Wonderful! I had an old recipe for this bread which I conveniently lost... this one is so much better! The bread stays moist and flavorful for 2 or 3 days. This does take all day to make, however, so start it early in the day... or be prepared to stay up late at night! But it's definitely worth the effort. Thanks!

Garlic Parmesan Monkey Bread
This was a great accompaniment to our Christmas dinner. I worried that people would think that it was weird to pull bread apart with your hands at a nice holiday meal, but it was not a concern. Everyone loved it. Thanks!
