The Changes of Me in One Year 2008
About this Cook
I am almost 50, but feel and think much younger. I am married, have 4 adult children and 6 grandchildren. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats. I enjoy photography, writing poetry (I am best know as the "Dark Poetress", web art, gardening, decorating, shopping, all forms of crafts and meeting new people. I also enjoy quiet time at home, reality tv and family time. I have lost 175 pounds within the last year, going down from 400+# to 225#.
My favorite things to cook
I love creating recipes of my own and experimenting. When I first started doing that (at 20), I often had flops, but I never do anymore. I can now walk into a restaurant, order something and with my palate, I can go home and make it. I love mexican food, fix wonderful Italian food, and I love eating comfort food. I love making desserts, but I do not eat them anymore.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom was a wonderful cook, but she didn't teach me anything about cooking except baking cookies. I learned to cook through a lot of failed attempts and being able to distinquish flavors in foods and then go home and make them.
My cooking triumphs
I make wonderful soups from scratch that really get raves and I can make a casserole with just a few items that no one would think to put together.
My cooking tragedies
When I was around 24, my Mom mailed me her recipe for home made noodles, but, like me, she never really gives exact amounts on recipes OR all instructions....so I had to play it by ear and like a dummy, when making my first chicken and noodles...I didn't boil the noodles first. It took me years before I made noodles again and figured out what I had done wrong!!
