Chili I

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2005
It took me a long time to cook and all this time I was not sure if it would be edible as it tasted really bitter and the flavours didn't meld together. I added extra sugar, lemon juice and tomatoes. My boyfriend and his mate quite liked it with grated cheese and sour cream but I still thought it weird. Was wonderful the next day though!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2005
I made this recipe twice and the first time it was a complete disaster. I didn't have muffin cups so I just filled little foil cases for minced pies to the top. My muffins literary jumped out of the cases and there was nothing even to try the taste of apart from the massive crust. I was quite curious to try again and the next time filled my muffin liners only by 1/2 (can't avoid going to extremes). Was glad to see my muffins looking presentable for a change, the topping was really nice, though muffins turned out a tiny bit dry. But it's a fun and quite unusual recipe, so I would recommend trying it.

Mushroom Crusted Ham and Cheese Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
It's a lovely recipe, a bit time consuming but all the ingredients compliment each other really well and the pie tastes wonderfully. I added garlic to the mushroom crust and didn't use ham. Many compliments to Linda Miranda.

Jean's Marinated Mushrooms

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
Funtastic and extremely easy to make. My boyfriend loved these. I added less oil and more vinegar and would recommend to keep the mushrooms in the fridge for a couple of days before serving for more vinegary taste.

Tequila Shrimp

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
This is a fun to make recipe with unusual taste. I used previous suggestions and marinated shrimp in half tequila half larger with 3 Tbsp lemon juice and cilantro for 30 mins. I also added a small onion to garlic and in the end I added 2 more Tbsp lemon juice, some red pepper flakes and 1 tsp Thai Red curry paste as it was quite bland. I really liked the result and would eat the whole dish but my friend didn't care for it.

Mocha Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
Funtastic and me-proof! It was a sleepy after-going-out morning and I managed to make all the possible mistakes with the recipe and still it was very tasty! I used 3 Tbsp coffee dissolved in 2 Tbsp water which for a change wasn't a mistake.

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
Dunno... The chocolaty bit was excellent (almost doubled the cacao!) but cream cheese mixture was completely set even in the middle of cooking and didn't taste of much at all. I glazed the cupcakes with Cream Cheese Cream topping from this site and they were absolutely delicious. Maybe next time I'll omit the cream cheese bit, but then why not just make simple chocolate cupcakes?

Mini Cheesecakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
Very easy! It's true that they don't taste like the real stuff but with so few ingredients I was amazed at the result! The only comment is that the crust needs some butter in it for better textute/taste.

Fluffy Two Step Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
I live in Britain and have never heard of frozen whipped topping, so I decided to substitute it with cream. Unfortunately I managed to use single cream and the whole thing absolutely refused to set. So we ate it frozen! Delicious! The only tricky thing was to manage to chop a piece off!

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
My love for spicy food killed my palate so now I always double the dressing and spices. I also added a bit of garlic and a pinch of paprika. But it’s my own taste, on the whole it's a very easy, tasty and colourful salad!

Five Ingredient Ice Cream

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2005
I made ice-cream! It's real, creamy, tasty and doesn't need scary ice-cream makers (never seen one anyway) I devided the ice-cream into 3 parts, added a couple of tsps cocoa powder to the first, a couple of tsps coffee powder to the second, left the third one plain-enjoy!

Green Curry Thai for Kings

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2005
I've made green curry lots of times using Thai paste, coconut milk, an onion and maybe some vegs and hoped this recipe would give it restaurant quality. Didn't happen, I actually added about 21/2 Tbsp Thai Green Curry paste and still it wasn't hot. Fish sauce was a good idea, thank you. On the whole it was pleasant, satisfying but a bit lacking something and I think just reading the instructions on the paste can can give very similar results.

EAGLE BRAND® Mini Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2005
They are lovely, even my boyfriend and his mate loved them. I made half of them chocolate and they were very tasty also but possibly a bit less cheesecaky. And you can decorate them with chocolate curls made with potato peeler, just make sure the chocolate is slightly warm

Fudge Truffle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2006
My boyfriend didn't sound very enthusiastic about a chocolate cheesecake but absolutely loved this one. Unfortunately he ate 2 big pieces and could hardly walk afterwards. The recipe is quite easy, only a few ingredients and the cheesecake doesn't crack because of the condensed milk. I baked mine in a water bath and it turned out a bit custardy but on the whole it’s a massive impressive success. I dusted mine with cocoa powder, decorated with chocolate swirls and served with raspberry sauce and whipped cream.

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2006
I couldn't wait to try these, mostly because of the wonderful picture illustrating the recipe. I added a dash of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg and though the muffins looked good something was still lacking from the taste. But they were very moist and got eaten in a day so I guess while not the best in my opinion, certainly worth trying.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
I didn't overmix, didn't overbake, tried to follow the recipe to the best of my concentration abilities. Quite nice, mine were more cake like, not chewy, moist but not enough and somehow lacked taste. Quien sabe..
