Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2007
I love this recipe! I followed the much appreciated advice of another reviewer- I removed the chicken to shred after cooking for 5 hours on low, tossed it back in the crock pot with one chopped yellow onion then let it cook for another hour. I served over rice. PERFECT!

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2007
I omitted the raisins, but it still tasted too fruity for my taste (not a knock against the recipe at all- just my preference). Next time, I will omit the coconut but keep the pineapple because it makes the cake very moist. However, I will puree the crushed pineapple for a more consistant texture. Per reviewer(s) advice, I used 2 cups of sugar (instead of 1 1/2) and added 1/4 tsp of allspice and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg.

Ed Zieba's Famous Family Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2007
Very nice and tender chops but was somewhat lacking in flavor (spice). The season salt just wasn't enough umph! My only change: I tossed in 16 oz. of chopped fresh mushrooms during the last 10 minutes of cooking.

Bacon Mushroom Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2006
This is the best chicken recipe. The sauce can be a little too salty from the bacon drippings, so I like to cook the bacon half way on the stove top, pat dry and then place on top of chicken 40 minutes into cooking the chicken. I use triple the heavy cream and if you're not concerned with carbs, wisk abit of flour in the sauce to thicken a little. If you are on a low carb diet, you can't get a better meal than this. The chicken comes out so tender and juicy, you could cut it with a fork.

Diet Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2006
I love this recipe because you can personalize it so easily to fit your taste. I add one green pepper (chopped), one bunch of green onion (diced), one bunch of celery (diced), 2 chicken bullion cubes, one can of diced tomatoes, 3 dashes of hot sauce, 1 tsp. crushed red pepper, 1 tblsp. Italian seasoning. I omit the green beans and use only one packet of Lipton's onion. When the cabbage is almost tender, I add 16 oz of fresh bella mushrooms. Sometimes I'll add some ham to it. This makes a low calorie and very filling large pot of soup that will last a week in the fridge. You will not like this soup if you don't like cabbage. If this is the case, just omit it.

Crawfish Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2006
I doubled the cream cheese and corn, as a previous reviewer mentioned and used Old Bay Seasoning instead of cayenne. Also, I used one medium yellow onion, 5 small red potatoes (diced), fresh mushrooms, and 1 lb ground italian sausage all fried separately in a pan (w/ butter if needed) and Old Bay Seasoning and added to the soup. Instead of using 2 lbs of crawfish, i used 1 lb. If using sausage, 1 lb is plenty! My husband said it was the best chowder he has ever had. I agree!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2006
I added 1/2 c more flour for a cakier cookie, which we prefer. I refrigerate the dough and make small batches so that I can have a warm cookie with coffee with 8 minutes notice. Also, I like to use parchment paper to bake on.

American Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2005
I used 1 lb of ground sausage instead of beef and upped the diced tomatos to 40 oz. I also added cream cheese to the rigotta mix. I baked for 1 1/2 hour. It is so much better as left overs! I will prepare this one day in advance next time. Great recipe! 4 out of 5 stars. Good thing I read the reviews for important advice before cooking it!
