About this Cook
I am a Mother, teacher, student, and wife. I began cooking shortly before I was married. I have lived in China, Belize, and Laos, and traveled in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Jamaica. I learned to make tortillas from Mayan Indians, and was able to take a 2 day cooking class in Thailand. I keep an online journal at http://lilpeanut80.diaryland.com
My favorite things to cook
Stir fries, pasta, and sushi.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My parents made good use of their "Fry Daddy" deep fryer. Everything tastes good fried!
My cooking triumphs
A tofurkey that tasted like a real turkey!
My cooking tragedies
Burning a big batch of york peppermint patty brownies in an oven with no thermastat. The landlady (also my next door neighbor) was the one who saw the billowing smoke. She knocked on the window to tell me. She had several friends in the driveway laughing.

Easy Broccoli Quiche
I added some carrots to the mix for color. I chopped all of the veggies in the food processor before baking, so that I could feed it to my 2 year old easily. It gave everything a nice uniform texture. I followed other reviewer's advice and put a layer of cheese over the bottom of the crust. I wasn't pleased with the results- the quiche had strata like the layers of the earth. So the bottom was chewy-cheesy. I think the "soggy crust" problem is from people using frozen brocoli instead of fresh. I used fresh so I think I didn't need to do the "cheese protection" layer.

Quick Yeast Rolls
These rolls are just "plain". I wouldn't make them for a special occasion. Mine weren't as smooth as the ones in the photo. I think if I made them again I would increase the flour AND the sweetener (sugar, or maybe honey like another reviewer suggested). I actually did eat some with honey on top as an after-dinner snack.

Whole Wheat Beer Bread
This is the 3rd beer bread recipe I have tried, and this one is the best so far. Very yummy and hearty/healthy tasting. I did increase the brown sugar to 1/2 cup and used 1 tsp salt and 1tbsp baking powder. Good stuff!
