About this Cook
A few years ago my boyfriend (now husband) and I moved into a new flat and the kitchen became my personal playground!! I absolutely love to get in there and try out new recipes! I'm lucky because we both enjoying eating, and it's twice as good if the food is tasty...so my mission continues.
My favorite things to cook
I used to love baking more than anything else, but since I can't eat sweets and only sweets I started to focus more on savory dishes. Now I love to prepare hearty one-dish meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Unfortunately, we don't really have any. That being said, my grandmother was an excellent cook. I can say that I think of her often, and wish she were around to taste some of my dishes.
My cooking triumphs
A few summers ago, I learned to make several Hungarian dishes while hanging out at Lake Balaton. It was great to hear Hungarians say that the dish was delicious! Additionally, after one bite of my creme brulee (off of this site) my boyfriend's (husband) eyes became wide and he said "I didn't think it was possible to love you more..."
My cooking tragedies
I try to put these out of my head. Nevertheless, I own a cookbook and the chef/author makes it sound like if you can't make cheese puffs you can't call yourself a cook. So, I started working on them. The first batch tasted nice but they looked like pancakes. The second batch looked great and tasted like egg-wash, yuck!

Slow Cooker Vegetable Beef Soup
This was good. I took others advice and used a few carrots and potatoes. I only left it in the crockpot for 5 hours because everything was cooked and I turned the heat down to low because it was boiling even while on low. My first impression was that the Worcestershire and soy sauce dominated the flavor, my husband seemed to think the same. On day two that flavor resolved. I would make it again but might try it without the soy and Worchestershire. Thanks for the recipe!

Maria's Pepper Steak
Very nice! My husband kept asking me if it was difficult to prepare...I guess that's because he wants it again? Anyhow, I took others advice and prepared the peppers first, meat second, and then married with the sauce and added corn flour. I will definitely prepare it again. Thanks! Oh, I may add some ginger and red pepper flakes the next time, that might add a nice boost. Thanks!

Chinese Restaurant Almond Cookies
These were very easy to prepare and require very few ingredients. They taste very nice - I took others advice and tripled the almond extract. I will certainly make them again. Thanks!
