About this Cook
Mom of two (five if you count my husband & our two cats). Going to college to comple my Masters, while working full-time.
My favorite things to cook
Needless to say, I don't really have a lot of time to cook during the week, so it's mostly quick stuff, but on the weekends is when I get back to my Southern roots & really "tear stuff up" in the kitchen. During the week, I love cooking whole foods, it is very important to me that I not only fill my family's bellies, but that I make sure that they are eating things that will fill them up nutritionally as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My weekly "cooking lesson" with my 7 year old daughter. Everyday, atleast once a week I teach her how to cook atleast one thing from start to finish. She is a fast learner & has such a love of all things culinary. She even Tivo's 30 minute meals & good Eats!
My cooking triumphs
Learning to play with traditional Southern recipes, giving them a healthier flair, keeping in mind te tradition behind the foods.
My cooking tragedies
For my husband's birthday about 15 years ago, I tried to make his favorite, Manhattan clam chowder...FROM SCRATCH. Well, when I told him what I was making he told me to make extra & we could make a family affair of it. I agreed to a family dinner, doubled my recipe & realized after it turned to goo that didnt double the liquids. AAARGHHHH. Quickly went from a nice sit-down dinner with the family to a pizza party. LOL.

Caramel Pie
This is absolutely fantastic! I made it exactly according to the directions, and it came out perfect. A few reviewers suggested using two cans, but I think that it would make it far too rich to enjoy. That said, the next time I make it, I plan to modify by making my own graham cracker crust, adding a handful or two of chocolate chips, and sprinkling almond slivers on top of the whole pie. This could easily become one of my family favorites...yum!

Banana Banana Bread
Absolutely spectacular. This had been added to the rotatation in our family. The recipe is enough for two loaf cakes. I make one with walnts & the other without. Yummy with coffee in the morning while heading out the door.
