Kale and Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2010
My kids love this, believe it or not! They think it's cool to get to add syrup to a smoothie. I think it's cool to get them a serving of green leafs first thing of the day. Thanks, Rice!

Applesauce Doughnuts

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2006
This was not the recipe that I was looking for, but tried it anyway. WOW! My husband has made me promise not to make them again soon because he couldn't stop popping them! I followed recipe and advice from reviews, using pumpkin instead of applesauce but also added finely chopped apple to the batter. I used a candy thermometer with a pan on the stove, which seemed to work best below 375 degrees- more like 325-355. Also, small teaspoons of dough instead of larger sized doughnuts allowed the centers to cook better for me. This recipe wil be used often in the fall, particularly while DH is working and the kids can get some! Thanks for posting it for us!

Beaker's Vegetable Barley Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
We used this recipe to make "Stone Soup" for our children's literature group. It was a hit with kids and adults, alike. I had to sub chicken broth for veg and used pasta (cooked, added at serving) instead of barley, both due to supply in the pantry. The only other alteration was one large quartz stone, of course! It's a great recipe! Thanks alot!

Venison Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2006
Great, Scotch! I'm not much for venison, but we have alot of ground deer burger. I've been looking for a recipe FOR DEER, not substituting from beef (those never seem quite right). This was really nice, even with the ground meat instead of chunks. Thank you much!

Grandpa's Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2004
We love this recipe but could somebody please change the law that says, "As soon as it's about to hit hard crack stage, you'll turn your back!" It still works out when you go a little higher, but I burn my hands trying to get them shaped before they harden!

Hawaiian Wedding Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2004
My neice and her first "boyfriend" had the same birthday and I was asked to bring a cake to the party. Who could resist the joke of the title (Hawaiian Wedding Cake) in that situation? I baked it in heart-shaped cake pans, too. It was a snap and the cake tasted great. Teens and adults all enjoyed it. I was even asked for the recipe from a woman that had a similar recipe with cherries, but she liked this cake more. Thanks for sharing!

Alaskan Salmon Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2002
This soup is WONDERFUL!!! We practice low fat and sugar so I altered it slightly, like using fat free condensed milk and eliminating the potatoes (I couldn't give up the corn, tho). It's sweet and creamy.... mmmmmmm! Thanks for the recipe!
