About this Cook
I'm a 47 year old married mother of 5. I've been married to my husband Joe for 26 years. He is an ER Nurse. I stay home and take care of our home and 4 boys and 1 girl. Our children are 21, 19, 16, 14 and 10. I told my husband if he bought me a house I would cook rather than going out. We bought our home 11 years ago and I haven't stopped cooking since. I am a cookbook/recipe junkie. I like to try new things. I'm a pretty good cook if I do say so myself and have also been told. We recently found out that our No. 3 son has Juvenile Diabetes...so I guess I'll be learning some more new ways of cooking!
My favorite things to cook
Easy Stuff!! I can cook everything except chinese food. I love going out for Chinese, so I don't try to master it at home.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas Eve dinner and treats for special occasions. I make, what I call Turtle Pretzels and my daughter Olivianna helps me. We have been making them together since she could climb on a chair.
My cooking triumphs
Where should I start. Just kidding. I make some mean Danish Cheese Squares, Rolo Cookies and Turtle Pretzels. I make spaghetti sauce (homemade) just like my mothers, at least I think so, pretty good. I'm known for my Chicken and Dumplings and Chicken Paprikash, with dumplings from scratch also mastered fried chicken! I recently started creating my own recipes, my "Dori's Tender Tips" have become a nationwide favorite with family scattered all over the map.
My cooking tragedies
It used to be PORK LOIN! Not tenderlion. The boneless roast.....dry!! I've gotten better :)

Simon and Garfunkel Pot Roast
I made this tonight.. loved it. Good old fashioned chuck roast dinner. I removed the meat (which I doubled, but kept the gravy and seasoning the same)and kept it warm and found the gravy to be kinda thin and bland, so I seasoned it with some beef base, onion powder, salt and pepper. Then thickened it, on high, with some flour and water. Two thumbs up by my family!!

Italian Spinach Sausage Pie
This is one of my family's favorite meals! Very easy and even people who are not fans of spinach or sausage LOVE IT! I want to bring it to events to share its so good! One big tip, LET IT REST when it's done, it will firm up! I would say at least 15 min. to 1/2 hour. Also, this would be even better (if possible) with a side of spaghetti or pizza sauce.

Italian Sausage Soup
Mmmmmmm.. nice and flavorful and oh so easy! I love cooking like this. I switched up the beans to Navy beans, we like a smaller bean, I thought about using diced italian tomatoes instead of the stewed, but so far I've stuck with the stewed. Wonderful aroma too!! I cannot make enough of this soup and have shared this recipe over and over!! Best soup I've ever eaten!!
