This pie is great. I've made it 4x in 3 weeks because it has been requested so much since the first time I made it. I followed the reviews of others by doubling both of the sugars to one full cup each, adding vanilla to the mixture and adding cinnamon as well.
Once the mixture simmered, I turned it to the lowest setting and put in SIX SMALL golden delicious apples (8 is too many). I covered them and turned the stove off. I poured that mixture into my 9-inch deep dish pan and completed it with the lattice. I did not glaze the crust. I shook some cinnamon sugar on top before putting it in the oven.
This pie is sweet, tender, and delicious every time.
I would definitely recommend this to any first time apple pie maker.
