I am one of the true children of the eighties and nineties. Both of my parents worked, so I never really learned a lot about how to actually cook or do anything domestic. I have been married for about 9 years to the most amazing man, however, his mother was a stay at home cajun mother and is now a caterer, so good food was a staple of his home life. I am also pregnant and about to have my first child. I want to be one of those alpha mothers who can whip brownies from scratch for a class party of 30 kids, while ironing my husbands work shirt and getting hard water stains out of a bath tub with some concoction of baking soda and vinegar or something. Reality tells me that I should probably just work on one thing at a time and leave being an alpha mother to Martha Stewart. I figure everyone has to eat so I can start with cooking and buy a Haley's Hints book for everything else.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook is the Spicy Oven Fried Chicken from this website. Everytime I make this dish I get rave reviews! I love that! Anytime my husband and I invite someone new over for dinner, I make this dish. It makes our guests think that I can cook. I never have to tell them that I'm best at frozen pizza!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father is the cook in my family and every year at Thanksgiving he would make pumpkin pies and pineapple upside down cake for the family "get together". Of course, these dishes couldn't be completed each year without the assistance of myself and my younger sister, so some of my favorite family cooking memories involve canned pumpkin flying across the kitchen!
My cooking triumphs
I recently made Thanksgiving dinner for my family and my husband's family. My mother is law is from south Louisiana and a caterer by trade, so needless to say I was extremely nervous! I didn't make anything fancy & the rolls were a little more well done that I would have liked but my husband was extremely proud of me and the entire family seemed to enjoy themselves very much.
My cooking tragedies
My biggest cooking tragedy is making gravy. I have tried and tried and tried to no avail. My husband has finally asked me to stop trying to make gravy from scratch. Now I just use the gravy packets!
