Zippy Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2010
It was really tasty. I didn't have soy so I added a splash of A1 and some salt. It was a bit runny so I think next time I'll add a bit extra cornstarch or figure out some sort of rue. I'm definitely making again.

Buttery Corn Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I made this last night and when it came out of the oven the slices wouldn't stay together. Each piece would just crumble. Now, this morning is a whole different story. It's staying together and tastes delicious. The crumbling may have something to do with they way I mixed the recipe. I just put it all in together and didn't mix alternately... I don't really know. Anyway, it's declicious today and I'll make again w/ the proper directions and see how it goes.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
I made this cake for the Tiramisu Layer Cake recipe on this site and it worked perfectly. I made it the night before I assembled the cake and it was a bit dry but I think it was my fault. The flavor was great and I'll definitely use it again.

Sour Cream Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2009
This is delicious. I admit, per the other reviewers saying it was a bit tart, I only used 1/4 cup of the sour cream and added 1/4 cup of heavy cream. It came out perfect and I can't stop licking the bowl!! :) I hate changing a recipe and then rating it but this is definitely a keeper w/ that minor change!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies III

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
WOW!! Very GOOD! They really do taste just like Nutter Butter cookies! My husband loved them and we are bringing the rest to the Super Bowl party. I made the chocolate ganache recipe and drizzled it on half of the cookies for those who like chocolate and pb (ME). Double WOW!

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
This was waaayyy too spicy and I even cut down the jalapeno, chilis and chili powder!! Also, I thought the tomato taste was overwhelming as if there wasn't enough other seasoning...plenty of heat just not flavor. I kept out the crumbles and added portobello mushrooms which was pretty good but they don't add flavor. This recipe makes a ton so be prepared to freeze some. The day after, I put some of the chili in a tortilla w/ avocado and it tasted really good and it cut down the spice. From now on, I think I'll use the recipe for my husbands chili and omit the meat. That recipe has a much better base..I think it's called "Flatlander Chili" on this site.

Lemon Lover's Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I made this cake from my husbands birthday and although we have cut the cake yet, the little muffins I made w/ the left over batter are quite yummy. I followed the recipe as directed except I didn't have any sour cream so I used lemon yogurt we had. (my husband obviously likes lemon). I think it might have added to the lemony flavor. I also did what some other review did and separated the eggs, added the yellow in when said to and beat the whites and folded them in at the end. Don't know what it did but like I said it tastes good!

Savory Vegetable Beef Stew

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2008
Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who added stuff to the recipe so it's no longer the original recipe....I hate those people. Anyway, I added everything the recipe said except for the boullion granules (too much MSG)and I didn't have any on hand. So to make up for the flavor I added a bit of Worsteshire, garlic and onion powder and half and envelope of Lipton onion soup. My husband loved it and wants me to make it again. I think the onion soup helped make it less tomatoe and more beef like. Overall its a good recipe that I will be making again with the adjustment I made the first time.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
I made these cookies exactly as written except I added nuts and they were delicious. My husband complains all the time that I make "puffy" cookies although I don't know how I do it...I just follow the recipe. Anyway, these we're perfect and delicious. He told me to make this recipe from now on, so I will. Very, very good.

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
These were waaayyy tooo sweet! I didn't make them for kids just my husband and we felt like we were eating dessert. He normally likes the canned version, so I don't know if that had anything to do with his dislike. I never eat sloppy joes and this recipe didn't make me a fan. I'd definitely cut down the sugar if I were to ever make this again.

Southwestern Pasta Salad

Reviewed: May 14, 2008
I made this for a family potluck. Everyone said they liked it but it's hard to say if they were just being nice. My husband liked it at first but the chili powder became a bit to much. I don't know if it was the brand of chili powder I used, but the salad seemed gritty from so much powder. If I make this again I'll definitely cut down on the chili and maybe add some other spices to liven it up. I gave it four stars because it is a nice change from the ordinary and very colorful to present.

Guinness® and Chocolate Cheesecake

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2008
I made this recipe for St Patty's Day and it came out looking beautiful. I added an extra 1/2 cup of cookie crumbs and two extra tbls of butter for the crust. The flavor of the cheesecake itself isn't as chocolatey as I'd like but it wasn't bad. I'll probably not make this again. I don't think it's a bad recipe just not for me.

Easy Slow Cooker Carne Guisada

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
This was the most bland food I've ever made! I made it exactly as the recipe called with no additions. After it was done, I had to add a million different things just to get it to have a taste. My husband likes Mexican/Latino food and this was just not a hit. I don't know what this dish is supposed to taste like but this recipe was not for me!

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2006
1/2008 UPDATE: I'm still making this bread with constant raves from friends and family. I made French Toast with it on Sunday morning and my husband and I LOVED it! You need to let the slices sit in the batter a bit to soak it in. YUMMY. I made this with my corned beef and cabbage St Patty's Day meal. It tasted good. I used only 1 cup of raisins and it was enough for me but my boyfriend thought 2 would have been better. 3 cups would be way too much!! We both agreed the flour on top was yucky. I blew the excess off but you really don't need it. Next time I'll just brush the top with egg to give a rich color. I'll make again b/c it's yummy toasted w/ butter.

Lemon Sponge Pie I

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2006
I made this pie for my boyfriend and he really liked the flavor and the texture of the "custard". He wasn't crazy about the "sponge" part. I don't eat lemon stuff but I thought it was really flavorful. I used Rice Milk instead of regular milk and I only put in a little bit over a cup of sugar. No one noticed or thought anything tasted different. Good recipe, I will probably make it again and use it just as custard. Thanks for the recipe.

Dairy Free Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2006
I had doubts....but not anymore. I used rice milk and it came out delicious. I added a little extra vanilla, used the recommended 1/3 cup sugar and it was fabulous. To prevent any clumps I mixed the cornstarch in the water first and then blended everything before heating....Smooth and Yummy. Thanks.
