About this Cook
My husband does 99% of the cooking, and always follows a recipe exactly to the letter. I will follow it the first time, then tweak it to my taste - each and everytime I make so you never get the same thing twice :) Which is good and bad. I have one daughter and of her friend who should pay rent. Luckily with this site I can usually find something they can all agree on. We've been married since 1997, had our daughter in 2001, have a dog, acat, fish, and a bearded dragon.
My favorite things to cook
Any meal I make that leaves a huge mess on the plate and doesn't require cutlery is always a hit in my house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies with my daughter on Christmas Eve for Santa. It's a tradition :)
My cooking triumphs
Baked Alaska... But I still can't make Rice Krispies Squares!
My cooking tragedies
A loaf of bread that I fought with to get out of the pan. It fell out, hit the floor cracked in two... The bread won.

Sugar Cookie Glaze
I mix up a huge batch then separate for different paste food coloring. I also use the food color markers and this holds up well if I let it dry overnight - it may be ready sooner, but I always wait at least 10 hours. It packs and ships well too. The only time I have had difficulty it when I've overdone the water or corn syrup.

Apple Crisp II
I made this once, as is, but it needed a little tweaking for my family. Sp for Thanksgiving, I took the suggestion of another reviewer and I doubled the crust ingredients, reduced the water to ¼ cup, cut the butter in rather than melt it, tossed the apples in the cinnamon and sugar mixture, added a touch of nutmeg, 3+ teaspoons of cinnamon (even added some to the top crust). I lost count of how many apples I used - small/medium apples, in three varieties because it’s what I had on hand. The entire pan was gone in under 10 minutes! I’ve been told to make at least 3 for Thanksgiving!

Lola's Horchata
I loved it, the rest of my family not so much - but I didn't make it for them :) I did double the cinnamon, because I love it so much, and halved the sugar for the second batch, and I loved it even more, but my family still didn't like it, their loss!
