I a busy working professional, recently married and trying to balance a stressful job with my love for cooking meals from scratch!
I first started to get into cooking 5 years ago when I moved to Japan straight out of college. Not being able to read any packaging meant that I mostly stuck to fresh veggies, noodles and rice.
Back in England, I still cook many of the same foods and love the fact that we rarely rely on supermarket ready meals.
My favorite things to cook
Baking pretty much anything! I love to cook hearty soups and stews. Asian foods I find challenging but rewarding.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I used to spend Sundays at my Grandma's house and she would teach us to bake every week. My love of baking stems from there and I'm getting much more adventurous as I get older.
My mum is a great cook and baker and most of my memories from childhood revolve around being in the kitchen "helping" her out.
My cooking triumphs
Perfecting a couple of cheesecake recipes has made me very popular with my husband. I also make pretty good gyoza and a good veggie lasagne.
My cooking tragedies
Sooo many to choose from! The worst would have to be an attempt at a vegetarian "meatloaf" that smelled like catfood and tasted revolting. My husband wouldn't go near it! I was especially gutted as I'd spent half the week's grocery money on the ingredients for it.
