My favorite things to cook
Creme brulee, petite brioche, and potatoes of any nature are my favorite things to make. My husband and I are also big soup and slow cooker people since we both work and this is such an easy way to make lunch and dinner. We frequently grill our dinner, marinating the meat in the fridge and then tossing it on the grill when we get home with a basket full of vegetables.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have been cooking and baking with my mom since I was little. One of my favorite cooking traditions is making Christmas cookies with family. We make Mexican wedding cookies and Italian sprinkle cookies always, and then add in new recipes every year.
My cooking triumphs
My husband had never had a homemade birthday cake, and our first year together I made him a yellow cake with strawberry buttercream from scratch. It was more special to him than the actual present!
My cooking tragedies
Accidentally reading tablespoons instead of teaspoons of baking powder...never a good thing.

David's Yellow Cake
This is so very good. I have made this both with regular flour (when I lazily didn't feel like going to the store since I was out of cake flour) and then again with cake flour. While both were good, the cake flour makes a big difference--it was was much more delicate and not as heavy.

Golden Rum Cake
I made this for my family--my dad is allergic to walnuts, so I substituted pecans. Also, I used coconut flavored pudding instead of vanilla. The cake was absolutely amazing--my brother thought it was even better than the ones we bought from the Cayman Islands!

Dumplings
I'm a poor college student who lives on soup because it's cheap. These dumplings are so good and so easy--now I have an actual meal! I scale the recipe down to 1.5 servings, and it always turns out.
