About this Cook
I am retired, former Marine, active in the Marine Corps League, American Legion and VFW.
My favorite things to cook
Mostly regular meal cooking. I do my own smoking and like to cook various smoked foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking regular holiday meals without getting too far out with side dishes. A lot of our cooking is from the German background of this area.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking for camp members. Not being fancy but good and filling. Rubbing, smoking and slow cooking a pork shoulder butt and having it all eaten, not because there wasn't enough but because it was enjoyed.
My cooking tragedies
From time to time for not paying enough attention or allowing myself to be distracted.

Stuffed Peppers for Two
This recipe has perfect ingredients and proportions. I also cut my peppers lengthwise. I used a tip and put a hole in my peppers to drain the grease. I mix the remaining tomato sauce with some trimmings from the pepper tops and cook it in the microwave. This way the sauce doesn't get mixed with the grease and works just fine for the gravy for the mashed pototes. I think that people who change everything in a recipe are only showing off. I think they should enter their own recipes.

Easy Chicken Satay
I never had chicken satay before so I had no opinion before making this. I am not a fan of chicken breast but this is a wonderful way to cook it. Everything was perfect except there is enough dipping sauce for five pounds of chicken. Saw where someone was freezing it so I will also. A new taste and recipe which everyone loved.

Amish White Bread
This is a fabulous recipe. We like whole wheat bread so I replace two cups of white flour with two cups of whole wheat flour. I sometimes have trouble proofing my yeast but I found a fool proof method. I set my large metal mixing bowl in a few inches of warm water in the sink and then I mix my warm water, sugar and yeast. In about ten min. I always get a perfect proof. I am new at this bread making and this recipe makes me a pro.
