I am a mother of twin toddler boys. This keeps me very busy. I grew up in a farm family with a mother who had me cooking at the age of three or four. I spent 10 years in 4-H Home Econ. clubs and state fairs. This gave me an appreciation for the subtlties of baking and cuisine science. I spent a year living in France where I learned to love the home cooking of an average Provencal family and how all 5 senses are a part of cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes. I have a few favorites in the comfort foods area like casseroles and desserts, but my husband always laughs and says we never have the same thing twice in this house. There are so many recipes out there and too little time
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always made a big to do about birthdays and in my childhood home, you got your favorite dish on your birthday. Mine was Macaroni and Cheese mother style or Chicken and Dumplings
My cooking triumphs
I won grand champion in the Oregon state fair one year for my canning projects. I only took home one red ribbon in my entire 4-H career. I catered two events just last year and was a hit. Pretty good for an amateur.
My cooking tragedies
I cannot bake cakes from scratch at all. Every one turns out heavy or uneven or falls or what ever. I cannot ice/frost them. I had one coconut cake slide off the plate in front of the co-worker I had made it for.
