Mom's Country Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
If you want to remove the floury taste you need to simmer it for at least 2 minutes after it turns to "gravy" You must stir constantly though or it will burn.

Irish Soda Bread I

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
finally a soda bread that is edible! I cut the recipe in half to make one loaf. Used 2 whole eggs and added 1/8 C. water since the batter was very stiff and thick. I'll be making this alot and not just on St.Patricks Day!

Comforting Cube Steaks

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2009
I tried this recipe even tho I did'nt have the exact ingredients. Even with my substitutions and eliminating the cajun seasoning since we don't care for it, these cubed steaks turned out great.I will use this recipe all the time when making cubed steaks. My substitutions were ginger ale with a bit of lemon juice.

Grilled Chicken Salad with Seasonal Fruit

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
This recipe was incredible!!!! My twist was using 3 small bags of salad greens and adding 2 small cans (drained) of mandarin oranges. I also marinated my chicken overnite in italian dressing before browning it in a pan with olive oil. My guests ate this as their main dish and devoured it minutes. Next time I'll double it. The dressing was perfect.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
This is the ultimate cornbread recipe. Made it exactly as written. Don't need to change a thing. If the idea of buttermilk is a big turn off rest assured that you will not detect a drop of it. My mother hates buttermilk and she never knew I used it and she loved this cornbread. (I'll never tell either!)

Sweet and Sour Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
No beans about it.... these are simply the best green beans. I did use more bacon and less onion to suit my family's pallette. My son who is not a veggie person devoured them!

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
After making these I will never used canned potatoes again! They were so wonderful I could have served them for dessert! I don't like nutmeg so I used 1/2 tsp of cloves instead and used about 3/4 C white sugar and 1 1/4 C brown sugar and left out the salt. I also had to add some canned chicken stock to keep them from sticking and burning. They still candied nicely. THE BEST D_MN Taters I ever et!

Never-Ever-Fail Meringue

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
For years I have searched for the perfect meringue. I've tried all methods and always had my meringues weep so badly that it would slide of the pie and I'd have to "drain" my pies before serving. Not anymore. I will be proud to serve meringue pies to my friends and family from now on.

Venison Fingers

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2006
This was an excellent recipe!!! I soaked my venison strips in milk overnite as suggested by another reviewer. I made these to take to our church Super Bowl party and they were gone before the first quarter was over! Now my sons and husband want me to make all our venison with this recipe. I also reduced to amount of mustard and added honey. WONDERFUL
