Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2014
Great recipe!!! The only addition I made was a slight egg wash brushed on top before baking. My picky husband said it's the best homemade bread he's ever had. And my even pickier 6 year old begged to have her sandwiches for school made from it and told me to leave the crust on!!! She NEVER eats crust!! So a win, win, win recipe! Happy hubby! Happy kids! Happy mom!!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2014
I think this is a great stew as is for anyone wanting a simple crockpot stew! The only change I made was adding some frozen peas. I just need peas in my stew to make it perfect, however I think next time.... And there will be a next time...I will just add thawed (and drained) peas at the end. I think the water from the frozen ones added too much liquid to the juice so it didn't thicken at all. But even with my juice being more watery it still tasted great!

Chewy Brownies

Reviewed: May 26, 2010
Awesome!! Perfectly soft and squishy! Just like any brownie should be! I had to change the cooking time to 40 min to adjust to my pan which was a little small and made the brownies thicker. I started at 25 min and poked the center with a toothpick till it came clean adding 5 mins at a time till done. But that's all! PERFECT! Thanks for the recipe!

Flavorful Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
I love the ease of this recipe but I want to recommend to everyone to use Low Sodium Soy Sauce. I used regular and found it way to salty and I'm a salt lover. My daughter wouldn't eat it and my husband could barely choke it down which also says a lot because he will eat anything put in front of him. With that being said I gave it 4 stars because it is still a wonderful recipe and I will be trying it again with the Lower Sodium Soy Sauce. Other than that no changes are necessary. Oh, and I doubled the sauce too.

Sweet and Sour Ham Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
I had to change the way I cooked the ham since I didn't have a grill handy but I basically boiled the ham in water in a skillet till it was cooked then I basted one side and broiled it in the oven for 1 minute. Then I basted the other side and broiled that for another minute. Turned out wonderful and juicy. I've decided that I want to try a whole ham glazed in this sauce sometime!

Herb, Garlic and Bacon Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2009
This was a great meal! The only thing I changed was the cooking temp. I started it out at 350 for thirty minutes then I turned it down to 325 for the remainder of the time. I followed the 1-1/2 hours with lid and then 1/2 hour without lid and I still had to cook it a little longer to get it to reach the internal temp of 160. I think it might be a good idea to make sure you check the meat temp if you use the lower 300 oven temp. Either that or plan on cooking it longer. My oven, by the way, was just checked for temp accuracy which we all know can make huge differences. Over all this was a wonderful recipe! I followed it word for word otherwise! I will be making it again!

Rosemary Sherry Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2007
This is a great recipe!! I've made a couple changes just to keep the health value up. I've left out the flour, instead I just rub the other ingredients into the chops. Then instead of using all of the veg. oil I replaced it with olive oil and only use enough to cover my pan but enough to keep the meat from burning. Other than the flour and oil I've left the recipe alone. It's wonderful just the way it is or with the changes I've made! Have fun with this one!

Pork Chops and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2005
I had to cut way back on the amount onions to make the recipe any good. It's a great idea but it needs a little personal touch when you make it. To follow the recipe as is, is a risk you take if your susceptible to indigestion.

Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2005
I added a touch of Parmesan and Mozzrella cheese to the top just before they were done. Let the cheese melt and brown to give this already great recipe a new highlight.
