About this Cook
I joined Weight Watchers in August 2005 and have lost 130 pounds at the time of this little post here. I'm committed to healthy, low fat and calorie recipes to help me reach my final goal (another 35 or so pounds). The good news is I'm not afraid to tweak recipes a bit to make them more WW friendly and I'm loving all the fabulous ideas I'm finding here. I live with a wonderful, darling man who is also a nasopharygneal cancer survivor. Because of the location of the tumor and subsequent radiation treatment, he has special dietary and dental needs that I have to take into account for each and every thing I prepare in our house. I love the challenge of finding him good things to eat that isn't just mush and baby food. It's not happened yet and it won't happen any time soon if I can help it.
My favorite things to cook
Good, low calorie and low fat meals that we can eat until we're full to bursting. I'd rather make ingredient changes to recipes and enjoy the foods we want to eat than eat traditional diet foods. That's totally blah and I refuse to go there.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big, super big meals on Sundays and holidays. It's hard to maintain that tradition when I'm cooking for only two but I do my best.
My cooking triumphs
I think practically everything I've cooked since joining WW is a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
A few seafood casseroles come to mind - lots of money spent for poor results.

Banana Banana Bread
Pretty good, certainly a breeze to make. I think I should have added another banana or two (I only used 3, not sure what I was thinking) as I would have liked more of a banana kick. I didn't add any spices or vanilla and baked it in a small bundt pan for about 50 minutes. Will definitely make this again when DH forgets to eat bananas. Excellent recipe!

Licorice Caramels
Pretty good licorice - says the woman who doesn't like licorice. So it must be good. Made my batch exactly as the recipe states, however, I would not recommend pouring into baking dish lined with buttered foil. Not unless you enjoy picking bits of foil out of your candy. Otherwise, this was great... I mean, really good. DH loves it.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way
The turkey was excellent! The white meat was sooo incredibly moist. I'll definitely make the next turkey this way. Merry Christmas!
