Mangorita

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2006
Made this, omitting the fruit juice - felt it was plenty sweet already. Was quite nice initially but the taste became a little cloying after a while. Makes a nice change from the usual margarita and was handy to use up some mango pulp I had. Grandma thought it was very good! *** Also tried this as a slushy - left out the ice cubes and froze it until slushy, spooned it into a margarita glass and then poured over some soda water - was good that way!

Raspberry Vinegar Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2006
Good base recipe! It just so happens that I was given some Raspberry Vinegar and was looking for something to cook with it! This is quite tasty - family enjoyed it! ********** I browned the chicken and then heated some spring onions and garlic (MUST have garlic!) in the remaining butter/oil - then added the stock & vinegar plus 1tsp cracked pepper, 1 tsp salt & 1tsp rosemary and stirred in the cream. I then added the breasts back in and simmered for like 1/2 an hour until the breasts were infused with flavour and the sauce was reduced & thick. Divine! Very good meal with mashed potato & greens (peas or beans). TASTY! Thanks.\ ~~~Oh yeah - my sauce was a lovely light brown in colour - no nasty red/pink so dont know what previous person was on about!

Peachy Broccoli Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2008
Recipe as written is bland and too complicated. However, the idea is good and with a few simple tweaks, is a tasty meal! **** To make it taste better try this; Add 1 tsp garlic, 1 tsp ginger, 1 onion, 1 red chilli, 1 red capsicum. **** To make it easier, try this; Chop all veges and chicken. Cook chicken and onion (and salt & pepper)until not pink any more. Remove chicken from pan. I*n same pan stirfry all veges and flavourings until crisp/cooked. Re-add chicken to pan, warm. Pour in peaches & syrup and cook until thickened (only a few minutes). Eat with rice. Tastes great and much easier.

Bill's Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2007
I think the proportions of sour cream vs mayonaisse should be reversed - this tasted too much like the mayo. I also didnt dig it with the worcestershire. Made another batch with a lot less mayo & w/o the worcester and it was better but still not super-fabulous like I was expecting after the raves.

Zesty Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
I thought this was a great, easy meal that tasted pretty good too! I left the skins on the potatoes, added baby carrots and used chicken breast. Also used the salad dressing that has oil in (not fat free) as this gives a better coating and keeps moisture & flavour in. To give this a FAB presentation and just add a little something, I served this over a bed of fresh baby spinach & rocket leaves with some halved cherry tomatoes alongside - it looked like something you order in a restaurant!! I will make this again - perhaps vary the dressing to change it a bit. Thanks!

Curry-Style Chicken and Spinach

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2006
I liked this! The kids liked it too - the only issue is that it looks a little like a pile of spinach which made the kids not want to eat it - once they did, they admitted that it was tasty! But - seriously - forget the onion powder - just chop a real onion and fry it off before adding the chicken/spices etc. Great recipe - simple and really tasty! Thanx.

Fried Curry Chicken

This was really good and kids loved it too! I had no yoghurt so used mayonaisse instead and it worked fine - the chicken was really moist.

Authentic South Indian Biryani

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
I rated this one the day after I made it and said that I thought the proportions were out - too much rice! Not enough liquid & spices..added garam masala, coriander, cumin etc...also added steamed (can microwave or fry) chunks of potato before baking...tasty with afew modifications..

Alfredo Blue

Well I thought this was just 'ok-ish' - it kinda stunk (guess thats the blue cheese & parmesan effect)..my daughter hated it - took one bite and couldnt eat it. I put the leftovers in the fridge but the dog will be eating them.

Arjun's Lime Chicken Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2006
YUM YUM YUM. I loved this rice. I just didnt know what to serve with it..I tried a pumpkin/bean/spinach coconut based curry but it didnt really match... This might be good as a cold/warm rice salad.

Naan

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
Pretty good - not like resturant Naan of course (if its not cooked in a tandoor you will never get that taste) - was too sweet for my liking but the family enjoyed. I didnt put the garlic in the dough - I brushed the breads with melted butter & garlic.

Chili I

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2008
This was good chilli - dont get me wrong - its just that I dont think it was better than normal chilli without the weird additions (ie beer, coffee, cocoa). My daughter wouldnt eat it - said it tasted weird - I liked it although there was an unusual flavour. If I made this again I would leave out the beer & coffee - I would still use the cocoa as it gives a smoothness to the sauce that I really liked.

Chicken with Lime Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
It must be me because no-one else seemed to have a problem but I tried to make this sauce twice and both times the butter and lime juice separated so I had a greasy lumpy mess...not sure why - it seems very straight forward!!

Easy Paella

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2006
Really good! I only changed it by adding mushrooms and broccoli and both green & red pepper, just to upp the vege content. When I had the leftovers I added a tomato to them - most paella's do have tomato so maybe next time I will add tomato when cooking the rice...anyway thanx for great recipe - really enjoyed it!

Roasted New Potato Salad With Olives

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2008
This looks and tastes GREAT when warm (just made) but after a night in the fridge, the poatatoes look a little squidgy and not that attractive. Still tastes good but I recommend eating warm when just made.

Bombay Chicken and Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2008
The best thing about this recipe is that it is so easy to make - throw in oven and leave! I added green & red peppers, tomato and spinach. It was ok - smelled better than it tasted but kids ate it up fine.

Peanut Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
Definitely needs veges added such as capsicum (green pepper), bean sprouts, carrots, celery etc - maybe could add shredded chicken too. I only used half the amount of sauce called for - it would be totally overpowering with all of the sauce! A squirt of lime juice before serving is essential!! Good base recipe.
