My Apron = My Chef's Hat

I never before cared about wearing an apron in the kitchen.  I wore one for work in the bakery ( I worked as a cake decorator) because I made such a mess.  But now I wear one at home.  And I'm not at all messy here.  While cooking dinner tonight (Baked pork chops, home made apple sauce, steamed rice and green beans) I realized why I love my apron.  We have have a baby now.  Simple as that.  I put on my apron and it tells my husband without me having to verbalize it...."I'm in the kitchen, I need a break, take Abigail and play."  And somehow wearing the apron puts me in the mind set to cook and create in the kitchen.
It's a really cute apron too.  In Japan the women wear aprons all the time in their homes.  They have different ones for cleaning, cooking and washing dishes.  There are actual stores that just sell aprons!  It's almost like an accessory showing off your style like a scarf or sweater.

I love my aprons and feel like I am stepping back in time when I put it on. Some of them have been passed on to me and I can't help but wonder the history of them. I know my husband gets a kick out of me busy in the kitchen in my apron.

I live up up in Sendai, Japan. And I love my aprons too! I loved them before we moved over here, but then when I got here I was even more excited by all of their aprons. What fun. My husband and I recently picked up some of those restaurant style aprons - incredibly long and wide. Unlike you, I am incredibly messy in the kitchen. I always have been. So I really appreciate the big apron. It makes me feel like a real cook.
