Hello Allrecipes fans! This is my first blog here as I have just become a supporting member. I love using allrecipes to get new ideas and to find wonderful recipes.
A little bit about myself. I live in Northern Japan right now. My husband is in the Air Force (I was also) and we're stationed here. We have an 8 month old little girl, 2 dogs, and a base commissary that never has what I need. I have had the blessing of living in many interesting places and I feel that it has defiantly influenced my cooking. I grew up in Up-State New York on a farm so I tend to cook a lot of pot roasts and slow cooker main dishes that are very hearty. But since being stationed in Hawaii first and then Japan I have branched out. Hawaii was an interesting place to live, especially when it comes to food. I learned how to make Filipino styled fried rice with a Hawaiian flare (spam). And I really grew to appreciate spam and Portuguese sausage. In Japan I now make a lot of stir frys with cabbage and local veggies. Their local produce is amazing. And I can get farm fresh eggs out of a vending machine! I wish I could detail further on my cooking style. It is very much a fusion (as I think most military families are) of so many different styles. I don't often use recipes exactly as they are written. I tend to get an idea from one and then alter it to what I have available. As I mentioned earlier the Commisary doesn't always have what I need so I almost always have to deviate from the plan and go with the flow. I try to avoid anything in a box or pre-made because it is usually so unhealthy and rather bland.
Well I think this is a good start for a blog. I made an amazing Mac and Cheese the other day, sounds plain but it wasn't, and I'm going to make it again and upload the recipe along with a picture.
