I made this recipe on the top of the stove (6 qt.heavy Dutch oven) and as printed but had to adjust the spices to my personal taste. Also, I found that the 4 C of sugar made it too sweet for 5.5 lbs of Granny Smiths so I added 3 Tab. lemon juice to cut the sweetness. In the future, I will add only half the amt. of sugar and add more as needed. I also added 1 more tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. ground allspice, 1/8 tsp. more cloves, and 1/4 tsp. ginger. My husband and I both loved it! Wonderful on hot biscuits! Will make again and again. It took me 2 hrs. from start to finish by this method, excluding the apple peeling. Thanks, Terri!!!!
