About this Cook
I am a retired school librarian with two daughters (both teachers), 6 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren, and a retired university professor husband. Love to read, cook (and eat), quilt, & crochet.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking breads, cookies, and cakes. Love to cook casseroles, too. Especially like to take a recipe and make changes to make it healthier and better tasting. Favorites: pound cakes, quick breads, muffins, & chicken/turkey dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners are our only family traditions. Menus are the same year after year and include turkey with dressing and gravy, candied sweet potatoes, butterbeans, fresh cranberry sauce, and pumpkin/pecan pie.
My cooking triumphs
I have no cooking awards. My greatest pleasure comes from watching people eat and enjoy the results of my cooking! Love to share my baking with elderly friends who can no longer cook as they did in years past.
My cooking tragedies
My greatest flop was a yellow squash & pineapple dish. Inedible - we had to toss it out! Have had a few pound cakes to fail but can usually salvage them with a sauce, etc.

Frank's Famous Spaghetti Sauce
Absolutely delicious! So simple to make, too! I did use extra lean ground sirloin because I had that and did not have any ground turkey. Also, I added 1 tsp. sugar and a bay leaf - personal preferences. Simmered the sauce for 30 mins. Have already shared this recipe with my daughter who does not like to cook and makes only simple recipes. THANK YOU, FRANK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Health Nut Blueberry Muffins
I loved these! Did make a few changes, though. Used King Arthur light whole wheat flour, half splenda for the sugar, old-fashioned oats , wild blueberries, and 1/4 C Canola oil, and omitted the nuts. Made 17 muffin tops which I baked at 350 for 10 mins. Makes an excellent breakfast!

Zucchini Brownies
Absolutely delicious! Moist and chewey! More like cake than brownie but that suited our tastes perfectly! Did not frost but served with light ice cream. Will make frequently. My husband did not know there was zucchini in his dessert, and I did not tell him! Next time, I will frost it and serve as cake! Many thanks for this wonderful recipe!
