About this Cook
A meat eater entrenched in a vegetarian household.
My favorite things to cook
I am always on the lookout for tasty, fast, and healthy vegetarian dinners.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Too many to name. My mom's simple chop suey, a good boiled dinner. Meat pie at Christmas. My dad's homemade spaghetti sauce. My grandmother's crepes and pink soup.
My cooking triumphs
still waiting for something I would call a "triumph"
My cooking tragedies
I used to try and make up a healthy vegetarian recipe to bring to holiday meals with the extended family. These included inedible vegetarian chili, disgusting fake meat sausage rolls, and fruitcake. All were disasters. My grandmother once remarked that we don't need to worry about unhealthy food on a holiday, but I think she just didn't want to tell my my food was awful. I have learned the value of a recipe, especially that of a five-star allrecipes recipe.

Tasty Lentil Tacos
"Outstanding" is what my husband said about these, and I agree! Thanks for a great and healthy recipe. I used corn tortillas instead of taco shells, and added minced cilantro and avocado to the toppings.

Vegetarian Shepherd's Pie II
OMG so good! I was looking for a veggie shepherds pie recipe that tasted like my mom's (meat) version, and this is pretty close! I added in 1 can of creamed corn and 1 can whole corn in between the lentils and mashed potatoes to make it "New England Style." I fried up the onion first, then added the broth and lentils and barley, then added the chopped carrot in later. Also added in a bay leaf, some sage, and some thyme. So good, thanks!

Bread Machine Focaccia
Very good recipe, could definitely use kosher salt sprinkled on top or more salt in the recipe, I cut the olive oil in half and used 2 cups of bread flour and 1 cup of whole wheat, still very good. Be sure to grease the pan before baking! This is one I will be making again and again for sure
