Sparkling Punch

Reviewed: May 20, 2010
I could not find sparkling cidar, so I used regular cidar. I did not get a chance to taste it. It went too fast. Must have been good. Katherine

Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
I made this shortcake last night following all of "Luv to cook's" advice. This is another winner. I'm only giving it 4 stars because the reviewers suggestions is what made the shortcake. I made six bisquits. I just spooned it out onto a cookie sheet which I had sprayed with Pam. Didn't need to dust with flour. Wonderful recipe with the tweaks. Will make again and again.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
I made this last night for my husband who is the worlds greatest guiny pig. I tested it on him because I want to make it for my church this coming Sunday. He didn"t say too much. I, on the other hand, thought it was wonderful. But, you know what? He didn't have to say anything. He kept going back into the skillet eating what was left. Actions speak louder than words. Thank you C, Perez. Will be making this for church and home again and again! I forgot to mention that I did take the advise of other reviewers and added chicken broth and I pounded it out a little. 4/21/10 Had church fellowship. The menu was fried, grilled and bbq chicken, potato salad, and green beans. Of course, I added the Spicey Garlic Lime Chicken on my own. THEY WENT CRAZY. It was like word of mouth. I asked them to try it. After they tried it they started spreading the news. There was none left. You can really tweak this recipe. Because I quadrupled the recipe (I used 16 chicken breasts) I had a lot more sauce, but still needed a little more. I pounded the chicken as suggested by one reviewer and added 1 cup of chicken broth as suggested by another reviewer. Because there was more liquid than I had in the original I thickened it a little with a mixture of cornstarch and water. Because i flattened the breast, which made them appear larger, I was able to cut them in half after they were cooked. So, I had 32 pieces of chicken. Next time I will add more chicken broth and maybe some mushrooms and onions.

Spicy Bloody Mary Mix

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2010
Once when my husband and I were out on the town, we stopped at the Hilton Hotel and had a drink. I ordered a bloody mary. I have been talking about it ever since. It was soooo good. Well, i have found it in this recipe. I used tomato juice, not V-8 because vegetable juice is a little sweet. I skipped the Splenda. I did not want any sweet taste. I doubled the steak sauce and Worcestershire sause. I trippled the celery salt. Everything else was the same. I'm giving this a 5 because of the ingredients. After 30 years, I have found how to make the Hotel Hilton Bloody Mary.

Country Manor Breakfast Tart

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2010
made this this morning for church. Read the reviews first, so I knew it would take a little longer than 40 minutes to cook. Except for the crust, I followed the directions exactly. It got nothing but raves. It IS a lot of work, but it is worth it. It is very rich so, if you like you can use fat free half and half instead of heavy cream. I love basil. Wonderful, wonderful dish. Thank you bettina.

Reuben Sandwich II

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
This was wonderfully delicious. I made this for my husbands's supper and he loved it. It is too good to be so quick and easy. I took the advice of some reviewers and heated my saurkraut, put it between the meat and cheese, and did not rinse my saurkraut. We like it tangy too. Thank you Colette G. You get 5 stars from me. Layered Egg Noodle Bake

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2010
This was a very good recipe. I loved the seasonings used in the meat sauce. The white sauce that went on top of the meat sauce was wonderful and decadent. I made home made egg noodles. This did not add to the recipe as I hoped it would. Save yourself some time and buy the packaged noodles. Next time I think Iwill double the white sauce and mix half of it with the noodles...then layer as directed. Also, as far as the directions go, I always saute and drain my meat before I add my vegetables. This way I don't throw any flavor of the vegetables out with the grease. Also, I used Romano cheese instead of Parmesan. Thanks Donna.

Chicken Dumpling Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
This sounded so good and to me that is part of what makes a good cook if you can look at a reipe and tell if it's good. Well, I lost out on this one. The soupy part was good, but the chicken dumplings were not. The texture is what was so bad. I didn't like the tarragon flavor in this recipe, though I like tarragon. The dumplings were too soft to work with and the recipe as a whole was very time consuming. What we didn't eat, we froze. We will probably discard the dumplings and replace them with oysters....my husband's suggestion. Anyway, sorry SILVANUS, but I have to give a thumbs down on this one. I will not try this again.

No Commercial Yeast Starter

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
It was hard for me to wait 2 days to use this starter. It did start bubbleing right away. It started to smell sour after about 2 days. After following the sourdough bread lll recipe on this site I put it on the rise. I could see it rise before my eyes! I am dead serious. I was so excited. I decided to feed my starter and put it in the refrigerator. I showed it to my husband so he would not throw it out. I can't wait until tomorrow to see how much more this dough has risen.

Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I give it a 4 because I added to it or changed some things. I didn't have cheddar cheese, but I had Monterey Jack cheese, so I used that. I added a little more sour cream than called for, I added 1 onion to the squash mix, I used about 2 cups more zucchini, 1/2 cup of french fried onions to the 1/2 cup of dressing I sat aside. After I spread the squash mix on the dressing I layered about 8 oz. of Muenster cheese on top of that. I finished off with the french fried onions I had mixed with the 'sat aside' dressing. Next time I will add chopped basil from the garden. This is a good recipe and will get rid of a lot of that garden zucchini. It also tasted the same if not better the next day. Next I will try freezing it. Katherine

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I thought it would be too much sugar, but I used what it called for anyway. It was really good. I added raisins and, instead of raisins, will add small chunks of pineapple next time. I made 6 loaves. I have so much zucchini in my garden, I will be making this again soon and freezing it. I will give some away at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks v monte for this recipe!

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
These biscuits are perfect. I took J. H. West's advice and used all butter, since she experimented with all shortening, half butter-half shortening, and all butter. I could taste the small amount of sugar. I used a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter and only got about 10 biscuits. I'm afraid to double the recipe for fear of compromising the recipe. I would like to use a larger biscuit cutter. So, I'll just have to make the recipe twice. Another reviewer said that when she kneaded the dough more than the recipe called for, the biscuits rose higher. She is right. Great recipe. Thanks Nancy Katherine

Seven Layer Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
I give this five stars. You can add or take from this salad as you like. I added cucumbers and celery. I took the advice of another commenter and layered my dressing as I made the salad, rather than put the dressing on top. However, the first commenter was correct in that the dressing does get all through the salad after awhile. It was delicious, and a meal in itself. I think it would be good with little squares of ham, or pepperoni, or chicken, or turkey. Or any combination of meat. I will definitely make this again. My family loved it. I took it to a birthday party. Katherine

Best Moist Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
When I make a recipe from AllRecipes.com, I like to make it the first time exactly as the recipe says. I didn't do that this time. Instead of a cup and a half of milk, I put a cup and a half of non-fat sour cream. Instead of margarine, I used butter. I think I might cut back to 1/2 tsp. of salt next time, and there will be a next time. This is a good cake. I agree with the commenters who used block chocolate if you like it real chocolatey. I don't. This was about as chocolate as a German chocolate cake. This turned out very moist. I'm saying it's because of the sour cream. I can't say for sure because I haven't tried it with the milk. Good recipe.

Roast Leg of Lamb with Rosemary

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
I started not to use the honey because I don't like sweet meat, but I did. I didn't even taste the sweetness. I used a meat thermometer that stayed in the meat while it was cooking. I like my lamb and beef medium rare. It came out perfectly! I loved the taste of the fresh rosemary. Good recipe.

Peach Cobbler V

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
I have made this cobbler several times using blueberries, or blackberries, peaches, or apples. WhetherI use canned or fresh pie filling,I always use a lot of brown sugar. I would say about 1 and 1/2 cups. One lady said this recipe needs more fruit. I totally agree. I used two 15 oz. cans of peaches. For seasonings I use 1 tsp. of cinn., 1 tsp. of nutmeg, and 1/2 tsp of mace. I also add another 1/2 a stick of butter to the pie filling. I get rave reviews and people asking for the recipe. I love the way the dough rises to the top. Thanks for this recipe.

Red Slush Punch

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
I have made this punch several times. At times I have a little problem with it getting slushy. But it is so good there is NEVER any left. I have even made popsicles out of some for my grandchildren. I have made it both with ginger ale and lemon-lime. It goes just the same. I have poured it in a bunt cake pan to feeze so I had a pretty ring. Try this recipe. Katherine

Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
I haven't tried the oven version yet, but when I cook my bacon in the microwave, I put it on top of paper towels that I have sprayed with a no-stick cooking spray. This way you don't have a lot of grease to pour off and your bacon isn't swimming in a lot of grease. Probably fewer calories, too. Then again, you might want to save the grease to cook in something else, like greens, or bean soup. Katherine Aug. 3rd 2009 I have made this recipe several times since my first review. I put a cookie cooling rack in a cookie sheet, I put the paper towels on top of the cookie rack, spray the paper towels with cooking spray. Make sure paper towels are inside of cookie sheet. If not, the grease will drip on the oven and smoke. Once I left the bacon in too long and it got to crispy to serve. I crunched it up for bacon bits and put it in the freezer. Katherine Dec. 7 2008
