I must say I love this site! I'm here EVERY day. I come here to find a better way to cook dinner, or fix something for a party, or just to see what's going on. There are so many recipes and so many people participating it boggles my mind. I have been to other recipe web sites and there is none… MORE

About this Cook
I have been using Allrecipes since 2005. It is my favorite site, bar none. I'm here almost every day. I have tried many recipes and most of them have been successful. At this time, I babysit two of my grandchildren every day. However, I still find time to to bake my pies that I sell.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook almost anything. I like to slowcook, bake different breads, casseroles, chili, soups, and desserts. I love when people like my food. Out of all these, I think my favorite is the bread. I look 50 times to make sure it's rising; and when it does, my heart sores. Then, after it rises for the last time, and I put it in the oven, the aroma matches nothing else. There's nothing much better than freshly baked bread right out of the oven.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We used to have Thanksgiving dinner at my grandmother's house. The night before I was always there to help. Among other things, she made bread and let it rise overnight. She also made soft cookies and sweet potato pies. Of course we had the traditional turkey with all the trimmings, but this is what I remember most. At Christmas my mom had ham, potato salad, and baked beans. I have the same thing with a few additions so as not to get bored.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs are my macaroni and cheese (which I will publish here soon), Chili, fried chicken, potato salad, chicken Alfredo (using a combination of recipes from Allrecipes), fruit pies, and soups.
My cooking tragedies
I could not make gravy. It was lumpy and tastless. Also, few times my fudge came out like caramel. I have been afraid to try to make fudge. I haven't attempted it in years.

Turkey Brine
I have brined many turkeys, but last Thanksgiving's turkey was the best I've had in my life. I couldn't tell much difference in the other turkeys i brined. All were grilled. So, this turkey was brined, then grilled to perfection. I don't even like turkey that much, but this will make me a changed person. Sorry I don't have a photo.

Seven Layer Dinner
I will rate this later. It is still in the oven. I followed the directions except I used 1 15 oz. can of peas. For meat I used smoked sausage, all ready prepared little sausage pellets, and left over chicken which I boiled and cut up. I put butter on a couple of layers. All I had for tomatoe soup was the kind you don't add water to...Campbell's Creamy Basil. I added about a cup and a half of cheddar cheese and then added the soup. Smells good. We will soon see.

Sage Pork Chops
Trying to avoid shopping for dinner, found 2 thick pork chops in the freezer. Went straight to Allrecipes to see what to do with them. This was the easiest recipe, sounded good, and I had time to cook them the alloted time. My husband loved them! He kept saying how tender they were. I made gravy with cornstarch as suggested by other reviewers. Outstanding. Wonderful flavor. We had mashed potatoes and green beans flavored with butter, garlic, onion powder and a little oregano.
